Review

“Richard Phillips has led such a life that he absolutely nails the science aspect of this new sci-fi classic - and yet also gets the action and the political aspects exactly right as well. Speaking as an old sci-fi writer myself, I know how hard it is to do what Phillips has done…I've read Immune to its brilliant and completely satisfying end - but only because this new writer is so skillful and this storyline is so inventive and moving that I don't want to miss a chapter of it…as good as any science fiction being written today.”
-Orson Scott Card

"The three books of the Rho Agenda trilogy (The Second Ship, Immune, and Wormhole) are a story that links a considerable amount of science with a thrilling storyline...I highly recommend readers pack their imagination and go for a ride with The Rho Agenda."
-NY Times best-selling Author Bob Mayer

Product Description

Book Two in the Rho Agenda trilogy

In the final pages of the spellbinding novel The Second Ship, NSA director Jonathan Riles failed to halt the Rho Project’s infiltration of the US government. Now the Project’s alien nano-serum is loosed upon the world, disguised as a miracle cure and leaving too many people—good people—dead. And anyone still alive to challenge the Project won’t be for long: an assassin known only as El Chupacabra is systematically eliminating any and all opposition.

At the top of the hit list is NSA fixer Jack Gregory, along with Heather McFarland and Mark and Jennifer Smythe, the three teenagers who first exposed the Rho Project’s evil agenda. In just a few short months, the trio has seen life as they know it stripped away, trapping them in a confusing new reality where human DNA is modified at an alarming rate. Struggling to understand what they are becoming and on the run for their lives, the teens and their remaining allies must stop the Rho Project before it alters the very fabric of humanity.

Same relentless action and pacing as the first book. The story could end here as all storylines seem complete but obviously that is not so as there is a third book to come. Roll on book three.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Good and Thought Provoking Read 27 Feb 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I went straight on to this book after the first in the series The Second Ship (The Rho Agenda : Book One) and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The pace in this book initially felt slower and the emphasis moved away so much from the three young adults to other characters from the first book. This made for a much more interesting read and not simply 'more of the same'. Also the three adults have to grow up quickly, thinking fast on their feet and starting to move away from their 'parents'' protection.

I guess also that the book starts to take on the guise of a political/techno thriller as themes from the first book are explored and brought to the fore.

The violence, some may call it pace, increases throughout, however, there are areas of calm where the characters come together and change as people.

I'm now looking forward to the third book - Wormhole.

By R. F. Stevens HALL OF FAME TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Immune is actually the second book of a trilogy (?) 'The Rho Agenda' and should really be considered as just the middle of the story, because the book is not complete in itself. The breaks between the three books seem to be arbitrary, and the storyline could just as easily have been divided into four shorter books or edited down to just one fat tome.

At first I thought it was standard Young Adult fare, but there is rather too much gratuitous gore and violence for this market, and, alas, the author seems to find it necessary for the plot. Much of the writing is sloppy and self-indulgent, which rather detracts from quite a good story, and I feel it could have benefited greatly from some careful editing to reduce the length and tidy up the English. It all feels too quick and easy and while it might appear fine while rushing through it, if put down for a break it suddenly becomes rather too unconvincing.

As has been mentioned in the blurb the plot centres on three High School students and their family, helpers and just a couple of powerful foes who manage to turn the Government against our heroes. The three discover the Second Ship, the one the Government knows nothing about, and are changed by their experience and combat the forces unleashed by the essence contained within the first ship.

However, one of the nice points in the trilogy is that at no time can we be certain which of the two ships is 'good' and which is 'evil'; in fact both might be evil, or good, as far as we on Earth are concerned. And it is this uncertainty which kept the books alive for me. And there are enough strings left untied after the third book that I think there must be yet another book to come.

This book continued straight on from the first (The second ship) so I didn't feel I had to play catch up. This one really grabs your interest and I couldn't put it down. Just waiting for hubby to finish with my Kindle so I can start on Wormhole.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Real Page Turner 19 Feb 2013
By Sussman TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
The story and narrative, in this book and indeed in the three books of the series can at times seem slightly beyond the realms of possibility, but all is great as the action and the narrative make this a real page turner. I found, the standard set here is very good; and therefore would not hesitate in recommending this book and the three books of the series to fans of science fiction. This author is worth watching out for.

Completely OTT but I loved it. Never a dull moment with Richard Phillips at the helm. He leads you on at breakneck speed which causes sleep deprivation as one frantically page turns to see what happens next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great second book, can't wait for the next! 12 Dec 2012
By rhosymynydd VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
After reading the Second Ship, I became addicted to this series if only perhaps to find out more about the wonderful imagination of author Richard Philips. The First ship has been forced to reveal some of its secrets to the world. AS yet unbeknown to the first's team a new ship has been discovered hidden for years, by a group of teenagers whose powers have grown daily since their discovery of the ship. Now the new nano-serum has been released on the world, but it changes human DNA, in a way that will alter humanity.

The teenagers have exposed the First ship to the world - The Rho project as it was known, while still keeping their own discovery a secret - however, the changes to their own bodies have led them at the start of the second book to a life on the run even from their own loving families, assisted by John and Janet runnaways themselves from their employers the FSA they move on to discovering more about the dual ships and the evil Dr Stephenson who has his own agenda with the first project unknown to his political allies. Meanwhile their concerned families wait for news and the teens move on. The know they are in a battle for earth itself and one they cannot lose.

This gripping series continues in volume three Wormhole.Immune (The Rho Agenda: Book Two)

This isn't quite as good at the first novel in the series, but it is still a compelling and excellent read. Even with their great powers, teenagers are still teenagers. Read more
