Book Description

The wound inflicted only a few minutes before was nearly healed. A small cut was the only sign that anything had occurred. I watched in disbelief as it finished closing and eventually disappeared.

2.0 out of 5 stars Convoluted. 18 Dec. 2010
By Emma
Format:Kindle Edition
I feel really awful for disliking this book so much. I read a lot of FanFiction and published work - anything I can get my hands on really - and if I'd have had read this story without knowing who penned it, I honestly would have thought it was some badly edited amateur work.

It really does pain me to say all of this, because I know how much passion and effort goes into writing. There are just so many grammar and spelling mistakes (their/they're, your/you're peppered throughout, beware grammar fans), and too many cringe-worthy clichés (the burning forest green of his eyes was an incredibly frequent description, as was the colour of everybody's lips) to be taken seriously. The plot kept me reading until the end, and I found myself warming to the characters, but reading this amongst all of the other great books I've read lately just left me completely cold and a little bit annoyed at myself for buying it.

I'd hate to end on a negative, so I will say that a good editor/proofreader would have probably made this book a hell of a lot better. I also liked the twist at the end.

1.0 out of 5 stars Badly written novel 16 Dec. 2010
By Elle L
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I do not know why other reviewers compare this to Meyer or L J Smith. Both can write. I could have written this better than Lauren Burd. Firstly, half of the book is like some teen girls' diary: I ate, got dressed, got to school blah blah. Boring, dull, boring. The dialogues between Samuel and Alina suck. They exchange a couple of really tedious words "how was school-good-how was your day-good", she finds him really hot (as does every other girl at school) and then suddenly a great love develops. How, when, why? the reader never finds out.
Where is their character arch? How do they develop? They don't. They are like paper-cut mannequins, flat. The villains are even worst, we are given no motivation for their being evil, I finished the book and im still not sure who really is the villain, Lucinda or Thanos. Why do they want Alina? And what role does Duncan play? We are never told. It's like there is hardly any plot, never mind sub-plots, the suspense is flat, the characters are two-dimentional, the villain is a clown and his side-kick too, the writing is dull, the story arch non existent and there are spelling mistakes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Immortal review 12 Aug. 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
The plot of the story is good, the characters and the relationships between them were well established and thought out. However the negative side is that I felt that the writing style could be much improved. There was one part in the story where there was a two week jump in the story and I personally felt that the story would have benefited from that time being more deeply explored so to develop the relationship between Alina and Samuel in a more satisfying way rather than skipping over it with a time jump. Also there is an annoying over use of the main character blushing, something that bothered me ever so slightly as there are other ways to show emotions than this. Overall the story was a pleasurable read as long as you can overlook the writing style, although personally, even though I would like to know what happens next my curiosity isn't going to win the battle in this case.

i think some of the reviews of this are rather harsh, yes it is somewhat overwritten until you get to the juicy stuff, but despite this, i enjoyed it and want to read more...

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth the price. 30 Dec. 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
To be honest I think the review from above are harsh and down right rude. I found this book to be pleasing and an easy read for the price. The story flowed and the plot was interesting with a cliffhanger to hang on to in anticipation of book 2 it really was ok. Im not an author and could never dream of having any thought of trying to write so to be brave to do so deserves credit NOT disrespecful horrid reviews. We all have a choice to buy and if something is not to our expectations then suck it up and move on.
Great book for the price.xx
