One of the soft core porn films of the 1970's Japan, this ghost story is very well made and has a good cast who play their parts with real depth - nothing can beat the part where the ghost makes love to her still living lover. It's scary and sensual but still enjoyable and very extremely mild in terms of soft core porn films of the 1970's. From a 2000's perspective, it's a real classic ghost film and its age has done it justice. I wasn't sure about watching it but was blown away by the acting of the excellent cast and the plot. Really worth buying or renting out and I'm glad I bought mine as I'll watch it a lot on Halloween night with my friends!

This reminds me very much of the kind of scary stories that people tell when it's a dark and stormy night. There's nothing fancy about the special effects -- inevitably, because of its age. And though it's dated in some ways, its period setting and sound basics have helped it survive. The scratchy production values even add to the general creepiness. Its body count is rather impressive, and the actual presence of a story proves that the tale counts rather than just the telling. Watch it if you're a fan of Japanese films and scary movies.

a bit disappointing at first - but i had to watch it again, and the more i watch it the more i really get into it. I think a great film - full of fantastic imagery - and buddhist touches - like the monks chanting away in the background.
