Product Description

Murdered contortionists aren’t exactly what Vivienne signed up for when she ran away to join the circus. But like most things under the big top, nothing is what it seems. With a past she can't quite remember, Vivienne finds that running away forever might not be as appealing as it once sounded—because forever means something quite different at the Cirque des Immortels.

Aided by her friends Kingston—a feisty stage magician whose magic is quickly stealing her heart—and his sarcastic assistant Melody, Vivienne finds herself racing against the clock to discover the culprit behind a series of deaths that should be impossible. However, the answer she seeks might reveal more about her own bloody past—and future—than she bargains for.

The show's just beginning.

Step right up...

The Immortal Circus is the first book in the Cirque des Immortels trilogy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Totally weird 21 Mar 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have read supernatural books before by other well known writers but this is the strangest work I have ever come across. I really struggled to get into it or have any empathy with the main character, Vivienne. This is probably because she had no idea who she was either so I ploughed on, hoping that she might be more fleshed out as the story line progressed. Alas, not. As a result, I found it hard to care about what happened to anyone, especially when none of the other characters seemed overly bothered about the grisly happenings.

It was written in the present tense which is one of my pet hates and quite unnecessary. I don't feel it added anything to this book.

I am very disappointed with The Immortal Circus and definitely won't be buying any of the sequels.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good idea/story. 7 April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I think the idea behind this book and the plot are really interesting. The plot concerning why the murders happened and who was behind all that was explained and wrapped up nicely but loose ends have been left to be explained in the remaining two books. I am definitely intrigued as to what will happen next and I think i will buy the next book as an easy read, to find out more about Vivienne's mysterious back-story.

A couple of things let the book down for me. There was a lot of unnecessary swearing which didn't feel at all natural. The romance between Vivienne and Kingston didn't seem to be based on anything but teenager-y feelings of lust. That part got a bit too sickly/twilighty for my taste; luckily the story was interesting enough that I kept reading through it. I think Vivienne's desperate need to be liked by Kingston let her character down, I wanted her to be stronger than that.

Overall - good YA novel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun 23 Dec 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was very intrigued by the idea and liked how the mystery of what was going on slowly unfolded. I liked how you are not sure apart from the protagonist who is 'good' and who is not. It certainly left me desiring to read more of this world and the characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't put it down 4 Oct 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What a surprise! I wasn't too sure on this at first, but it was on offer and I read through books so quickly. But I was surprised. I couldn't put it down. I love the characters and how everyone of them jumps out the page and I can practically see them. I have already downloaded the second. And I'll be starting it tomorrow. A must read for any fantasy lover.

3.0 out of 5 stars "The show goes on" 2 Feb 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I read this is its full novel format, as opposed to the Kindle Serial format in which it was initially released. Call me crazy but I'm the worst for waiting for things. I can't stand the idea of a book (something which already makes me wait in the form of sequels, more often than not) could possibly make the time between knowing what happens next and the here and now any more excruciating.

However this is all beside the point - the Immortal Circus is a definite YA novel, in my opinion (although it's listed as aimed at adults on Amazon), though don't let that be a marker for comparison between it and Twilight (as is sadly often the case these days). That would be doing The Immortal Circus a massive disservice. I had to admit I found the main, point of view, character of Vivienne a little hard to warm up to at first. However I was soon on board - whilst at times a little slow to pick up on the trail of clues left at her feet, and a little too obsessed with abs, her character does become sympathetic and fun to live the story through.

There were little slips - a few descriptive phrases, the repetition of certain character traits in several separate characters, which marked this out as a first fully fledged novel. However, saying that, A.R Kahler (A for Alex - male) does a wonderful job of not only showing a female perspective convincingly (ab obsession aside I was more convinced by Vivienne than many female characters I've read in the past, in this genre in particular) but capturing a young, love struck infatuation (because what else is Vivienne's constant Kingston fixation?) well, if not perfectly. The romance came together nicely, if not altogether convincingly. More time on character interaction was probably necessary.

4.0 out of 5 stars Off to the Faerie Circus 12 Jun 2014
By Ceri
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
So, I bought this book after I'd read the Night Circus and was on a serious circus kick. And given the cover and title, this seemed like a good idea.

It's easy reading. I read it in a couple of hours and fits snugly into the young adult/new adult genre. Originally it was published I believe as a serial which means the pacing is rather quick which again helps with the speed and it's definitely a book that I could easily pick up the next copy.

Yes, I would have liked to hear more about characters, but hopefully we'll find out more in the next books.

Don't think I was the target audience and bought it in error but it's OK, a decent enough book had I been half my age.
