Product Description

Kevin Rogan’s a young lawyer in a big New York firm. The last thing he needs is a pro bono case on top of his work load. His client’s in the mid-West: a smart and beautiful girl who has fallen into deep schizophrenia overnight. Her friends start falling as well. Schizophrenia isn’t contagious—or is it? The girls all live surrounded by fields of genetically modified corn. Could an infectious agent jump from corn to attack the human brain? The clock is ticking. It’s growing season. Can Kevin prove that allowing the corn to bloom will cause great, irreparable and immediate harm? Arrayed against him, one of the world’s most powerful corporations will stop at nothing to suppress the evidence.

James Thornton, “one of the ten people who could change the world” (New Statesman) is one of the world’s top environmental lawyers, former head of an international neuroscience institute, and a member of the bars of California, New York, and the United States Supreme Court. He is the founding CEO of ClientEarth, with offices in London, Brussels, Paris and Warsaw.

Young legal guy in New York takes on the bad guys doing GM farming -I read this book in one sitting - the tension was maintained to the end. Huge issues that face the world today are neatly incorporated into the plot of this tension filled drama. James is writing about what he knows and if you want to know too, get reading. The characters hold their own in the story line and you too will really care about the outcome...........can't say more, buy the book to find out.

On that John Grisham / Scott Trurow axis I'm a Grisham man - and this has lots of that Grisham feel. I like the sense of a young lawyer tripping over ideals to take on the corporate world. In this case that world is agribusiness and the field of attack is what can happen if business faces no regulation when it plays with viruses and genetically modified corn. In the way of Michael Crichton, far-out science is given a credible enough spin to keep me hooked and believing and caring for the human drama that spins off as a result. And I loved the intellectual play of the courtroom scene. The young lawyer Kevin Rogan looks set for a sequel and I'm ready to head out into this wacky world of environmental collapse and root for him one more time. Great stuff.

Bravo!
James Thornton has written a brilliant novel that deserves a large audience.
IMMEDIATE HARM is a beautifully crafted work that is a resounding wake up call to all
about the horrors and imminent dangers of genetically modified foods.
Thornton has given us a lively and memorable cast of characters. I hereby apply for
the position of casting director for the film that is sure to follow.

Grand GM eco-thriller 9 July 2011
By M. J. Goodman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Can this happen? Can a girl go schizo after breathing in a virus that jumps from GM corn? That's what this book has you believe - and oddly, I came to believe it. The science is there (well enough to keep me on track and not lose me) and the courtroom scenes earthed it all in the real world too. A thrilling - and frightening - legal thriller with an environmental edge.
