"A very funny first novel" it states on the front cover. It seems whoever said that had this novel confused with another novel.
Laughs here are few and far between. The stuff in between the laughs is just plain boring. Clearly Peters should have stuck to writing for a women's magazine. I can't imagine how this "novel" got to the publishing stage.
Ellie, the main character who we are supposed to sympathise with, is plain annoying. At times I just felt like slapping her. She preaches to her neighbour Josie about Josie's extra marital affair, but then as she embarks on an affair herself (she's 38, he's 18), she becomes close friends with Josie as they talk about their "adventures." Then she meets up with her ex after 20 years apart and neatly disposes of the 18-year-old in favour of him. Then she decides she doesn't want him either and the husband which she couldn't stand the sight of only a short time ago, she now wants back. All this would be excusable if Immaculate Misconceptions was well written, but on this account too it fails miserably. On top of all this there are also spelling and grammatical mistakes throughout.
This is possibly the silliest and most inconsequential book I have ever read. Please learn from my mistake: don't waste your time!
