Biography

The Used emerged flipping two middle fingers at what passed for the rock n’ roll status quo while snatching platinum, gold and silver certifications in North America, Europe and Australia and kicking open the doors of MTV and the Top 10.
Now freed of the shackles of corporate bureaucracy and even the limitations of geography (half the band now lives abroad), The Used is creating the ... Read more in Amazon's The Used Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Just WOW 4 April 2014
By Adam
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This album is beautiful, gorgeous, amazing, fun... I can write more positive adjectives for it but I don't think it'd do justice.
They alaways amaze me, but this album is just a whole new level. My favourite album was Artwork before, but it has been dethroned by this piece of art. From start to end this album delivers everything a rock fan need. The slow songs are exciting and they fit very well with the faster ones. Vulnerable wasn't this good with the slow ones, so I'm very happy with the tracks on this.

Favourite track: Can't really decide, all of them are great, but if I had to pick just one, maybe "A Song To Stifle Imperial Progression (A Work In Progress)"
10/10

5.0 out of 5 stars Just let it play.. Over and over! 9 April 2014
By David O'Dea - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I didn't expect much from this album, being a fan of the USED for so long, I was almost certain I'd be disappointed. Given that VULNERABLE was lacking in so many areas and the Ocean and the sky EP was just recycled USED. But I was dead wrong about IMAGINARY ENEMY. It's an amazing piece of work. Yes it's political, about 60% of it, but it's relevant to the state of America right now. They had something to say about Americas decay, and said it well. If it's unrelatable to some because of that, then maybe you don't care about the state of your country or your own well being. It has an amazing message, the other 40% of the album is lullaby anthem, delivered like only the USED can do. The only down side to IMAGINARY ENEMY, is how over produced it is. John Feldman, is infamous for that. (Lies for Liars album), I wish it would of been more raw given the message behind it. Artwork was raw and truly brilliant, it's to bad they didn't tap into that more. But it's an amazing album and if you love the USED, just put it in and let it ride. I promise you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a really good album 16 April 2014
By J. Casey - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I don't get the hate on this. The whole thing is catchy and that can't be denied. Previous albums have nowhere been near as catchy. I think some of the melodies are overused and ripped off from other bands, but still catchy. As far as repeat listening, this is way better than Vulnerable and Artwork. I like this and if you are ripping on it because of the political material, that has nothing to do with the song quality.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed. 16 April 2014
By Casey - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I've been a big fan of the Used for about 9 years now and this album is by far their worst. I was open minded about the electronic stuff because Vulnerable was so good but here it seems like that's all of the instrumentation and most of it sounds the same throughout the album. The style is much more methodical then the previous albums, except The Ocean of the Sky, which I think did a much better job with their new calmer style. I was excited for the political stuff (though afraid it would be a little too marxist) but the lyrics aren't that political, instead they're's more about love and I found it to be very corny; The Ocean of the Sky did the political thing by actually being political and not just using the attention grabbing lovey dovey crap. I short I though it was unoriginal, a failure in experimentation, and it just lacked the Used's usual spark.

It's not possible for them to make a bad album! I love this record and the message they are trying to make with it.
3.0 out of 5 stars Not your normal "The Used" 22 Jun 2014

This is probably my least favorite album of theirs so far. They decided to switch it up with this one and go political, which is fine it just doesn't appeal to me as much as the others. I've reached the point when a song from this album comes up on my iPod I skip it. Nothing really stands out for me. If you're a diehard used fan then you should get it and decide for yourself. If you're just starting out with them I would recommend starting from the beginning and work your way up to this one.
