Product Description

Everyone has an image of Blackpool. For some, it conjures up a picture of the Tower. Others think of the piers, perhaps the old music days. Then there are the trams, the illuminations - the list is endless. It was the Northern mill workers who helped make Blackpool what it is today - Britain's premier resort. They came in their droves to sample its unique atmosphere and bracing sea breezes. Today it boasts more that 17 million visitors a year and, although times have moved on, Blackpool's singular appeal still remains. Blackpool is big, bold and unashamedly brassy. But it gives people what they want - and most of them come back for more. Some start their love affair with Blackpool as candy floss kids, others as excited teenagers. Then there are the families, at whom Blackpool has always been aimed, who come back time and time again to enjoy the wide variety of leisure, pleasure and entertainment it has to offer. Few showbusiness names have reached the top without a stint on the boards of Blackpool's North Pier. All have happy memories and tales to tell of the typical Northern welcome they received in those early days. Images of Blackpool is a pictorial record of some of the changes that visitors have witnessed through the ages. The photographs, taken mainly from the Gazette archives, promise to jog the memories of people of all ages.

I used to go with my family every year to Blackpool, right up until I was 11 years old. Then once again when I was either 13 or 14 years old. Because I love the place, I decided I wanted to see what this place/resort looked like decades and decades before I entered this world. I was very pleased with what I saw in this book. I don't really think I could have wanted more from this. It was great seeing what this place/resort looked like all them years ago before the invention of arcade machines and what not. If I enjoyed this book, then I would imagine that anyone else who loves Blackpool would as well. Great book for anyone wanting to look at old images of Blackpool.
