I first came across this book when my wife was researcking her family history, and, as her grandfather had been a member of the DLI, her research took us to the DLI Museum in Durham. After the Museum we visited the County Record office where the DLI records are kept. One of the books we were shown was "Image of the Soldier". There and then I wanted our own copy, so obtained this copy.
The book is superb, with so many unique and very interesting photographs amassed in one volume. Several photographs are similar to, and comparable with surviving pictures from my wife's family collection. It shows many sides to what soldiers went through and experienced.
It may only be a soft back edition, but that does not detract from its superb contents. The copy was received in excellent condition, and well within the promised delivery time.

The photographs and storyline in this book clearly define the world of a British Army regiment in the 19th and 20th centuries. They reflect a bygone age without descending into nostalgia. An excellent buy not only for those interested in the D.L.I. but for anyone interested in the British Army of the period.
