I'm a Whitney Houston fan but I like her early ablums not her late stuff, her singing style changed later on in my opinion, sort of like the rest of the singing diva's around these days like Beyonce, Mariah Carey etc., too much oooooh in the lyrics, no need for this when you can just sing the song great naturally.
Her first three albums are masterpieces and she is such a great natural singer in these albums and this album "I'm your baby tonight" is off the radar on most peoples list but it is a great album and a little different in style than she normally does which shows she is a versatile singer. There are some really great tracks on this album that will join the rest of your favorites, you definitely won't be making a mistake in buying this album. The one thing I'd say though is it may need a few listens to really appreciate how good it is.

Progressing from the Pop/Dance sounds of the Whitney (1987) album, Whitney Houston returned in 1990 with a fantastic album, I'm Your Baby Tonight, which conveyed her growing maturity as an evidently diverse recording artist and merley supported her confirmed status as perharps, the greatest singer since Aretha Franklin.

The album opens with the title track, I'm Your Baby Tonight, a nifty commercial R&B/Pop track that is uplifting in it's content and from Whitneys rip-roaring vocal power. The volume and power in her voice is astoundingly rocketing and sensationally stunning.

My Name Is Not Susan steers gently into distinctley early 1990's sounding Hip-Hop. Though this track hardly stands the test of time as well as some of the other recordings on here, the track is still overly a winner which is perharps solely due to another power-packed performance from Whitney.

What has always remained her most timeless work is her effortless flair for ballads. The beauty and soul in her voice really shines out on the glorious and breath taking ballad All The Man That I Need. Whitneys vocal delivery is sensual, strong and positivley exhilirating, gripping your attention from the opening bars and not letting it go until the song is fully completed.

Whitney sweeps you off your feet on the sensual and breathtakingly beautiful, Lover For Life which is almost trance-like with her exuberant vocal delivery to the sweetly mellow musical arrangements. It also features a glorious saxophone interlude towards the bridge of the recording which merley adds to that dazzling effect.

The album then swerves and drives back into Hip-Hop with another dated sounding number, Anymore.

First released in 1990, this album contains some memorable Whitney Houston works. This CD tells a story, no question. I'm not quite sure if it is supposed to, but it absolutely does. Or maybe I'm imagining things...

1. I'm Your Baby Tonight - The cassette tape I used to have of this album had a far superior version to this on it, in my humble opinion. It was much more dramatic. I think that must have been the European version, but whatever it was it certainly wasn't the very lightweight arrangement on this disc. Never mind though, the sentiments are still the same. She's hopelessly in love with someone and prepared to do anything they want. Is that love? There's a question.

2. My Name Is Not Susan - I happen to think that 'Susan' is rather a nice name actually but that is clearly a view that Whitney and I definitely do not share. It seems that her date for the evening has accidentally referred to her by that name. It was probably a compliment, as in he was so 'relaxed' in Ms Houston's company that he really wasn't thinking properly. Well, he'll certainly live to regret that. As will the listeners of this track, who are left in no doubt by the end of it that her name is most definitely NOT Susan. Oh, and she wants some respect. Which is fair enough, I suppose. I'm certainly not going to be the one to argue with her.

3. All The Man That I Need - With the opening track proving so hopelessly inadequate, it falls to this one to make this a CD well worth having in your collection. It is an utterly beautiful song, a perfect combination of music, lyrics and that fantastic voice. If only she could have found a man deserving of the words to this awesome number. Still, she obviously thought she had. Which makes it rather heartbreaking to listen to.

As the lead single for the album of the same name, 'I'm Your Baby Tonight' was given a makeover for its single release in Britain. Yvonne Turner's mix is present as the single and extended version of the track on the CD single. Both are punchy and anthemic and are - to my ears - far superior to the Dronez remix and the original version, which are available elsewhere.

'I'm Knockin'', which closes the papent album, is also included on the CD single release. It's a shorter cut than the album version, fading out at 4:08, but other than that there's no difference to the mix. It's a mid tempo belter for Whitney and is a polished piece of soul pop. The CD single closes with 'Feels So Good', a non-album track. A laid back groove that could easily have sat on the main album, 'Feels So Good' is a good little treat to close the single release.

Full tracklist: I'm Your Baby Tonight [Single version] 4:16/ I'm Knockin' 4:08/ I'm Your Baby Tonight [Extended Remix] 6:23/ Feels So Good 4:11
