Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Reba specialises in encouraging ordinary women to face their trials with courage, perseverance and hope. Consisting mostly of 1990s hits, I'm a Survivor deviates from this mission just twice: "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia", which is either a slice of Southern Gothic or pure kitsch, take your pick; and "She Thinks His Name Is John", a morality tale that mistakes pity for empathy. More typically, Reba shouts, "You go girl!" "Fallin' Out of Love", for example, is about a woman who tells her cheating ex to take a hike when he comes crawling back. "I'm a Survivor" (the theme from her American sitcom and one of the disc's three new recordings) is about the struggles of a single mom; if only there were some real-life scale to it all. Instead, Reba the diva transforms each song into a grandiose anthem, where even the quietest beginnings end with her revving up for one more key change. --David Cantwell

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great collection of reba's songs, 23 Oct 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: I'm A Survivor: Greatest Hits Vol. 3 (Audio CD)
Reba is the most sucessful female country artist and is one of the very few artists who manage to get a third greatest hits albums ( many don't even have enough hits for one.)
The songs are great and as the old (the night the lights went out in georgia, if you see him, take it back), mixes in with the new (survivor, myself without you and sweet music man), it just makes you realize why she's been so fabulously successful.
Her unique voice and the well-crafted songs stay in your brain and the the themes are always so current and real that you feel an instant connection.
Another winner. Go Reba!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Reba's best of the nineties, 24 Sep 2002

While I generally prefer Reba's eighties music, I also enjoy her nineties music and this collection of some of her best nineties music is highly entertaining.

My favorite here is the chilling She thinks his name was John, about an AIDS victim - it is by far the saddest song on the album. There are many other great songs here too, including The heart is a lonely hunter, And still, and Why haven't I heard from you.

I was also pleased to hear Reba's version of Sweet music man. This song was written and recorded by Kenny Rogers in the seventies and was covered by Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette, Billie Jo Spears and Dottie West at the time. It's a long time since then but Reba's version is as good as any of them (although Tammy's version is still my favorite), and it's much the best of the new recordings.

I wasn't really sure if I wanted this, having most of the tracks already, but when I heard Sweet music man, I knew I'd made the right decision.
