I downloaded this ebook as soon as it was released this morning and haven't been able to put it down since. Mel is vulnerable and strong, sensitive and funny, loving and giving. She has endured so much. We wish her every happiness as she turns the corner. NOW is her time. Read and be inspired!

5.0 out of 5 stars WARNING. 27 Aug 2013
By CLIVE
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The moment you pick up this book to read, you will be embarking on one of the scariest roller coaster rides of your life. Just when you think the journey is coming to an end, and you've held your hands up in the air, screaming at the top of your voice for the last time, there's yet another gut wrenching bend in the track, followed by a stomach-churning dip and a few more twist and turns to make your eyes water. Eventually you will come to the end as the little train you're in begins to slow down. With a sigh of relief, and trying to hold on your last meal, you will climb out of the crazy little car with a smile on your face, wiping your tears away with tissues and wearing a t-shirt with a huge red heart printed on the front of it. Let's hope you'll still be standing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Breaking through the silence 1 April 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A friend of mine sent me an article from a paper about Mel's book and experience. It was spine chilling and made me feel physically sick. I felt compelled to read the whole book and downloaded it to my Kindle within hours. I was starting two weeks annual leave and spent the first two days in my pyjamas not able to put it down. I was completely captivated. The initial traumas that Mel has experienced, I haven't shared to the same extent (more recently the sudden death of my beloved father, but I was blessed with 39 years of being with him and learning from him), however reading her experiences with her sociopathic husband were a mirror image of my own 6 month marriage. She writes her thoughts about how things, his excuses, rationale for his behaviour just don't make sense. I could completely empathise. I had been there - the complete disorientation, knowing that it didn't make sense but justifying and becoming completely submissive. I couldn't understand the behaviour, no-one could. Through reading this book I have started to understand and appreciate that those characters that I believed only existed in magazines are sadly in fact a reality - it's been a very hard lesson to learn. Reading Mel's book has made me appreciate it's not just me, in fact compared to Mel, despite the fact it doesn't feel like it at the moment, I've had a lucky escape. I hope that one day, like Mel, I will thank my husband for making me feel a love like no other - I'm not there yet. I still miss my soulmate. I cannot wait for the book to come out in paperback - the Kindle version is great, but it's one of those books where you earmark certain chapters and pages and when you need some therapy you can just pick it up. Quite a harrowing story of how events, completely beyond your control, can dominate your life. Many people not a strong as Mel would have given up. She doesn't! Gripping.

5.0 out of 5 stars Standing Proud 10 Jun 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
An emotive and harrowing read, all the moreso as this is a true story, the life story, in fact, of my good friend Mel.

Mel tells her story with aplomb and a somewhat gay abandon, which can only be used by those who have come through from the darker side into the light. It's a tale which frequently shocks and, in my case, reduces the reader to tears.

I'm so incredibly proud of Mel, all that she's overcome and the positivity that she's drawn from such a catalogue of loss, hardship and abuse, but perhaps more importantly, for the core of steely determination that seems to run through her like Brighton rock.

Those who find themselves in a similar situation, or who have befallen similar sufferings, can draw strength and learn from Mel's experiences. Perhaps they too can set their sights on a heady place on the other side.

Darling Mel, not only are you 'Still Standing' but the sun is well and truly shining on you.

I bought this book after researching sociopaths. I have had an all consuming encounter with one who left my family and I in a complete mess. I couldn't believe the traits that Mel's husband showed. It was like the book had been written about my own circumstances. Mel shows an outstanding strength of character which has truly inspired me, and I now realise I'm not alone in my experiences. The book has given me strength and hope for the future. Like Mel I am a professional person, but this encounter nearly finished me off. I feel relieved in reading this that somebody has felt the emotional pain that only a sociopath can leave behind. A fantastic read, I simply haven't been able to put it on. I now feel excited and motivated to get on with my life. Thanks Mel, you're an inspiration!
