Review

'My wife . . . Iris Murdoch, died of Alzheimer s after a seven year illness, so I am familiar with the situation so masterfully set out in John Zeisel s book. It is certainly the best book yet written about the predicament of Alzheimer s patients and carers' --Professor John Bailey CBE

'I would say to anyone living with a loved one who has Alzheimer's, read this book, reread it, keep it for daily reference. It will change more lives than just yours' --John Suchet, presenter and author

'A book that will give great hope and encouragement to anyone dealing with Alzheimer's sufferers either in a professional situation or at home' --Bookseller

Product Description

The unfortunate popular perception is that when someone is diagnosed with Alzheimer's, they are immediately lost to themselves, to those who love them and to those they love. In I'M STILL HERE, John Zeisel shows how you can connect with someone through the fog of dementia and build a relationship with the person within. This groundbreaking book focuses on connecting with Alzheimer's sufferers through the abilities that don't diminish over the course of the disease, such as understanding music, art, facial expressions and touch. By harnessing these capacities, and by using other approaches to treatment, this book demonstrates how it is possible to offer sufferers a quality of life with a connection to others and to the world around them.

I am always looking for information on helping people Living With Alzheimer's. Up until now the best book was by Graham Stokes "and still the music plays" Johns book adds a new dimension of help and understanding the disease, full of understanding, optimism and hope. This is a must read book, for all those wishing to gain a paradime shift in viewing what appears a hopeless situation.
I could write much more but sincerely would be wasting you time that could be better spent ordering the book and reading it, don't delay buy it now.
I am now going to re read and still the music plays because I believe it will allow even greater appreciation of that work.
Good luck it will help you greatlyI'm Still Here: A Breakthrough Approach to Understanding Someone Living with Alzheimer'sAnd Still the Music Plays: Stories of People with Dementia

Alzheimer's isn't easy 2 April 2010
Format:Paperback
An interesting book, but the ideas put forward are not applicable to everybody. However it does encourage people to seek new ways of coping with loved ones with dementia, and making life more worthwhile for both patient and carer. Definitely worth reading, but don't be disappointed if a lot of it does not fit your situation.

quite a deep book - makes interesting reading for those who search a deeper understanding of the minds of those with dementia - the knowledge gained is helpful in coping and supporting someone who has been changed, but it 'still there'
