Book Description

3 Dec 2009
Barry Cryer and Graeme Garden star as Hamish and Dougal, with Alison Steadman as Mrs Naughtie, and Jeremy Hardy as the local Laird. "Gambling Fever" sees Hamish becoming addicted to gambling after winning a Sporran Cosy in the Glen MacLottery, while in "There's Something About Mrs Naughtie", the lady comes into an inheritance and attracts the advances of Hamish, Dougal and the Laird. In "The Subsidence Adventure", Hamish and Dougal advertise as 'builders to the gentry', while in "Inverurie Jones and the Thimble of Doom", a treasure hunter plunders the local museum. "Look Who's Stalking" finds Hamish and Dougal employed as ghillies to the Laird's stalking party, and "Porridge Votes" sees the Laird standing in the local by-election - with Hamish and Dougal running against him. Also included are two festive episodes, "Burns Night" and the "Hogmanay Special" in which the duo are joined by Clue stalwarts Colin Sell and Tim Brooke-Taylor, and Humphrey Lyttelton makes a guest appearance as the Laird's butler. This is the third series of the popular BBC Radio 4 comedy, plus two seasonal specials.

Finally. Three years after it was broadcast and nearly five years after the release of series two, the BBC have seen fit to release the remaining episodes of this great comedy series.

A spin off from the long running and equally timeless `I'm Sorry, I Haven't A Clue', the Doings of Hamish and Dougal finds Graeme Garden and Barry Cryer reprising their popular creations, aided and abetted by Alison Steadman as Mrs. Naughtie and Jeremy Hardy as the Laird. Set in the Scottish Highlands, the series follows the comic misadventures of two elderly Scots gentlemen as they wade through bizarre situations with a barrage of innuendo, double entendre (and plenty of single entendre) and bad old jokes.

The situations are reminiscent of the Goon show, the jokes are very much in the Carry On tradition. The blend is perfect, and the result is laugh out loud comedy that is just timeless. When today's `edgy' comedians have faded into rightful obscurity, and the topical humour is no longer funny, this will still get laughs by the bucket load.

All six fifteen minute episodes are here, along with a New Year's special (also featuring Humphrey Lyttleton, Tim Brooke-Taylor and Sandi Toksvig) and the 2007 Burns night special, meaning the complete doings are now out on CD. Thanks Beeb for finally getting around to releasing this, what took you so long?

Recommended to all fans of Clue, Carry on and innuendo laden humour. Also check out series 1 and 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally! But worth the wait 15 Dec 2009
I'm absolutely addicted to Hamish and Dougal and in my mind it's the spiritual successor to the Goons. Not that it doesn't resonate with Carry On humour, Round the Horne and the whole comedy tradition. I do find in a way that the specials are at the same time better and worse than the regular episodes - better for having a broader canvas but slightly worse for bringing other actors onto the tight team. But I can't complain when it means more episodes in total.

4.0 out of 5 stars More from Hamish and Dougal 20 Feb 2010
I thoroughly enjoyed this latest offering of Hamish and Dougal. It did not seem quite as fresh as the first two series, but I'm nit picking, they were brilliant. It still had me laughing out loud all the way through. It's one of those comedy programmes you can return to again and again. The innuendo's come thick and fast, you won't remember them all.
Great entertainment for all the family. I haven't heard my parent's laugh so much since the last time I got them to listen to Hamish and Dougal.

Hamish and Dougal return in their third series and quickly remind us of how funny radio can be.
Best of is the inclusion of the two specials, the burns night special and best of all the new year
show with Humph stealing the entire show.
WE WANT MORE!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars a really good laugh 2 Jan 2012
By Sam
I have only listened to this on the radio but only when I happened upon it, so it was really good to listen to all the way through. There are lots of really silly and funny gags, which my teenage son also enjoys.
Just sit back, listen and enjoy.

If you like ISIHAC you'll like this - though not as funny unless Humph is involved!
