4.0 out of 5 stars Another view! 1 Aug 2007
By Beetle
I am writing in reply to the first review as well as in response to the single. I have followed Saltpeter in their long and hardworking history, seen them live several times and jumped around to their 21st century hybrid of ska, punk and funky pop, all embellished with London poetry in a style not dissimilar to the Ian Dury's of this world ( Where Althea and Donna come in I have no idea!)
They have now joined forces with a genuine independent label (FRED) and produced a second single which is guaranteed to get any party up and at it, and what is more it makes you smile!!
For a band that record in the back bedroom, on a label unsupported by the multinational "big bucks" to give their fans, old and new, a package of a double A side and video should be applauded for their efforts, not damned with the faint praise and cynicism of the uber cool. Buy the single, see them live, support one of the hardest working, truly independent bands of now.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm actually shocked by Mr H THe Rocker's review 25 May 2009
This is a brilliant, sassy, saucy, funny, and hook filled slab of poptastic brilliance. AsBeetle says, this is a genuinely independent band who have slogged teir way around on their own - substantial - wits. Salena Godden is a fabulous, ballsy and arresting front person and they deserve support - not, as Beetle says, damning with reluctant praise

3.0 out of 5 stars ...pole dancing clowns [shudder]... 26 July 2007
Hmm, there's a narrow line between clever and stupid, and a narrower(-er) one between a good tune and a rubbish one. Now, this is amusing the first couple of times, thanks to the catchy and entertaining chorus, but it's laid over a fairly non descript pop/ska tune, straight out of 'Uptown Top Rankin'.

There also seems to have been oodles of cash chucked at this, if the digipack, video enhanced, colour bookleted single is anything to go by.

Which is suspicious. And then there's the whole poetry thing, which is tantamount to pure evil in this neck of the woods. Oh, decisions, decisions.

But...oh, alright then...if I take it at face value, treat it as a disposable piece of pop music, designed to while away three minutes of my life, in a nodding dog stylee, then it's enjoyable. So I'll mark it as 'hit', and be damned, ignore the tosh about bi-curious ambiguity (which is sooooo 2005), and, altogether now;

"Dem check sey we hip and ting, true them no know and ting, we have them going and ting", bugger, wrong song.

Oh, and if you're allergic to a Pete Burns lookylikeys and pole dancing clowns [shudder], you'll want to avoid the video.

A bit of a larf for those autumnal evenings.
