'Illustrated War Photography' has some amazing front line photography from over the years, from the first development of photography up to the present day. The photos aren't especially well known, but they are still stark and powerful images of war and it's affect on man and society. There are images of troops on patrol, soldiers saying goodbye to families, bombing raids and a whole host of other photos. This collection covers the first world war, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq (both wars), as well the world trade centre attack and other wars and military events. There is an excellent essay to introduce the book and each photo has an accompanying caption explaining the history of the conflict and the image itself. This is great to dip into and makes a good coffee table book due to it's excellent paper quality, but I found myself reading to the end as it was so engrossing and interesting. A moving and stark portrayal of war.
