Product Description

Product Description

"What distinguishes this title (besides the 500 years of coverage added to the enlarged edition) is its 180 color illustrations, which depict in rich detail figures representing varied social classes of European (and later American) society from 1066 to 1990. A succinct glossary and a one-page introduction provide complementary text to the parade of the great years of fashions' and the full descriptions that follow....Fashion/costume students or enthusiasts, fashion designers, and theater wardrobe designers will find this a valuable and interesting research tool. Recommended."-- "LJ

This book provides you with a snap-shot of the main fashion trends from 1550-1920.

If you are looking for an in-depth research this is not the book for you. It covers, however, items like the jerkin, overskirts, werther mode, wrist ruffs and many more items you might not even heard about.

It provides nearly 150 colour plates with a small description under each plate.

A book worth having, but only for a taster into the various time periods.

Format:Hardcover
A quick reference book covering most centuries.Limited costume examples with short descriptive passages. Not an in depth study of the many styles and variations through the ages.A good and colourful book for students.

The author is an unoriginal, untalented illustator & writer 21 Jan 2000
By Anne - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This is an absolutely pathetic book. The illustrator/author merely copied famous works of art from the Reniassance period. Wait, I shouldn't say copied: He made weak attempts at the imitation of these masterpieces. Could he not come up with something slightly original in text and drawing? Please save your money.

...not the best one 1 Jun 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This book has really nice pictures at all but after learning so much about the history of costume at university I was really unsatisfied with this book. It could have been more structure in it, too.
good for fashion design and for fashion history students 18 April 2006
By Emily Cheung - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
a book with just illustrations and some helpful notes on the garment details. it doesn't dig deep into history and all that, but visually, it's awsome...it's essential for your studies...
