Excellent overview 19 July 2011

I personally think this is the best beginner's magic book to date. It has a lot more pages than an average book on this topic. The pictures are clear and colorful, and the tricks are presented in an understandable way; short and concise. Extremely user friendly and practical. For all age groups (over ten or so). If you are just starting out, then this will keep you busy for many months learning quality effects.

good basic magic 13 Jan 2011
By Philip Gleason - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I believe in the classics, and this book provides well illustrated presentations of classical magic tricks. If copied literally the material would be suitable for a child or adolescent performer, but with some imagination, humour, and more polished props you have excellent magic tricks. The price and number of tricks makes this a much better deal than any techno-gimmick.

Reallly nice! 7 Oct 2010

I'm not a performer, but I like to read magic books. I have several and have read others, but this is the best so far.
It has LOTS of 'tricks' and most need no special equipment. If they do need a special item or gimmick, he shows how to make it.
There are easy, fun things to do to impress friends, like 'string through arm' in 2 different but easy to master ways. Two cool ways to pull a rope right through your neck. I've just tried the arm and neck tricks, and they work great!
There are lots of clear, color pictures showing how to perform the tricks, accompanied by good text directions.
The cover says "375 fun and simple-to-learn tricks" and "more than 2500 easy-to-follow color photographs." And they're right!
Last year I bought "Magic - The Complete Course" by Joshua Jay. Before that, my favorite was "Magic for Dummies" by David Pogue. About the same time as Dummies, I bought "The Everything Magic Book" by Greg Davidson. It's not as good and the pictures are washed out and grainy monochrome. And before that, my long-time favorite was the classic Mark Wilson Encyclopedia and course.
So, to sum up, this is good, fun book for learners. It's not aimed at professionals or advanced amateurs. I find it very inspiring.
