Just a taste of Elizabeth David - excerpts from her books, 2 Feb 2006
This review is from: I'll be with You in the Squeezing of a Lemon (Penguin 60s) (Paperback)
from the Penguin 60s series:-
'Writings and recipes from our most distinguished food writer.'
'Elizabeth David was one of the most influential cookery writers of the post-war period.
Her first book
A Book of Mediterranean Food (Penguin Cookery Library), was published in 1950 while food was still rationed, but it fostered a desire for good ingredients cooked simply and unpretentiously.
All of her books received great critical acclaim and the publication of
French Provincial Cooking in 1960 confirmed her position as the most inspirational cookery writer in the English language.
She was awarded the CBE in 1986 and died in 1992.'
89 pages split over 12 chapters:-
Paris and Normandy
The True Emulsion
Picnics,
Juanita's Tortilla
Golden Delicious
Italian Dishes in Foreign Kitchens
Chez Barattero
Measurements and Temperatures
Les Potages : Soups
Cassoulet Toulousain
I'll be with you in the Squeezing of a Lemon
Cottage Loaves
Recipes include:-
Pesto
English Lemon Curd
Cream of Tomato and Potato Soup
and that greatest of French regional dishes: -
Cassoulet
It should be noted that these books are just little tastes of the author, are written in a fairly small print and contain no illustrations, hence the price!
