Product Description

CD Description

Cardiff City FC are currently hot news playing to full houses week in week out. Their fans sing the oldest football song in the world; "I'll Be There" which was sung by Welsh Miners during the General Strike of 1926. The song has now been recorded for the first time by The Stand to raise money for a statue at the ground for the legendary Cardiff City 1927 Cup Winning Captain and Somme Veteran FRED KEENOR. Combining the attitude of The Sex Pistols and the folk punk of The Pogues, The Stand are made up of four well known musicians and actors all brought together by a great cause. Owen Powell was the guitarist and songwriter of Catatonia, one of the best-known bands of the 90's. Jonny was in the mod indie band The Pocket Devils but left to pursue a successful acting career that has seen him appear in some of television's best known shows and the film 'A Bit Of Tom Jones'. Joining them on bass is Guto Pryce from Super Furry Animals, one of the most influential and innovative bands of the last two decades & on drums Ryan Richards from million-selling band Funeral For A Friend.

Format:Audio CD
An updated version of the old song sung in South Wales during the general strike of 1926 and, a year later, in 1927 when Cardiff City lifted the FA Cup, taking it for the first and only time out of England.

This version, featuring some of Wales's top contemporary musicians, is being released to raise funds for a statue of Fred Keenor, the Cardiff City captain who led his team to this historic Cup victory.
