United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 0 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital Stereo ), SPECIAL FEATURES: Black & White, Interactive Menu, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: Ginger Rogers gives a dramatic performance in this moving romantic drama in which a woman named Mary Marshall, who was convicted of manslaughter (she defended herself when her lecherous boss attempted to rape her and she accidentally killed him), is granted a ten-day furlough for Christmas to visit relatives. Once out, she encounters a shell-shocked vet (Joseph Cotten) on leave from the VA psych ward on a train. The unstable vet has been allowed out by his doctors to see if he is ready to function in normal society. At first, the vet is nervous around Mary, but something clicks and she invites him to stay at her house during their respective breaks. Together they attempt to have a happy Christmas while dealing with the vet's problems. At first Mary keeps her own past and troubles to herself, but as they begin falling in love, she decides to tell him the whole story. In this way, the two reconcile their pasts and move closer toward forming a relationship. ...I'll Be Seeing You ( Double Furlough ) ( With All My Heart (I Will Be Seeing You) )

4.0 out of 5 stars Romantic 27 Dec 2008

Mary Marshall (Ginger Rogers) is let out of prison for a few days to stay with her aunt's family. On the train, she meets soldier Zach (Joseph Cotton) who is having a few days holiday before he returns to a psychiatric hospital. They embark upon a romance before they must both return to their institutions....

It's a romantic film that is well acted as we follow how two misfits come together and fall in love. A downside for me is having Shirley Temple play Barbara Marshall, Mary's younger cousin. I just find her ghastly. There are good scenes between Rogers and Cotton as we believe the love that they feel for one another. Although Cotton comes clean about his situation, Rogers' character keeps her secret to herself and this causes a misunderstanding at the end. It's a good heartwarming story.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'll be seeing you every Christmas 5 Sep 2012

Who does not like Ginger Rogers? She could dance as good as Astaire and easily could out sing and act him! This is a wonderful little film - and Ginger looks wonderful in THAT HAT!!! It is a sweet and sad little film where two badly bruised people meet and fall in love. I really enjoy this film and watch it every Christmas time. For those that do not know it, treat yourself, you will thank me. Everyone, absolutely everyone gives a great performance in this wonderful film.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mature Ginger 28 Sep 2011

I think this is the first Ginger Rogers film I have seen when she is not singing and dancing. Its a bit like the non singing role Judy Garland had in "The Clock" (1945)opposite Robert Walker. If Ginger's character was alive in 2011 with a competent barrister (advocate) she would have been unconditionally discharged as women today have far more rights, especially defending themselves against rape (what on earth could they show on screen with censorship in 1945). Today even blatant criminals try it on and complain that "their human rights" are breached at the drop of a hat if they cannot provide a logical defense for their transgressions.

These thoughts crossed my mind when watching this film but of course one has to view it historically with the laws then prevailing in the west.Ginger does look fairly mature here especially when she has the youthful Shirley Temple to compete with on screen.Joseph Cotton does his usual competent acting part and I remember seeing Spring Byington in a tv western series in the 1960s playing a matronly figure which she plays here.Overall an adequate film I would rate 6/10.
