Britain's newest homegrown talent were, this time last year, the coolest Sixties-esque pop-rock (or 'nu-pop' as the band themselves affectionately called it!) to ever surface from the musical vaults of good old Blighty. Fast forward to the present time and our favourite 'nu-poppers' have matured beyond recognition with this latest offering to become our hottest indie band to date, with hints of their orginal musical influences such as The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Bruce Springsteen, The Kinks, Led Zeppelin and more strongly, The Who, shining through.
Gone are the colourful clothes, jangly melodies and unswervingly rhyming lyrics.....replaced by a mean and moody look (complete with old-skool blazers, ties, sexily rumpled shirts and new piercings and tattoos for some) mature, thoughtful lyrics and more grown-up songs that tell stories rather than praise vegetables (check out 'Broccoli' on their fantastic debut album 'Room on the 3rd Floor'). The bleached hair has been left behind in favour of sexy, mussed up darker hairdos and with their best musical offering to date the boys have secured their positions as well-respected, live musicians. 'I'll Be Ok' is the second offering from second album 'Wonderland' (out August 29th) and it doesnt disappoint. If you thought their first album couldn't be any better, prepare to be exceedingly suprised.
With 'I'll Be Ok', the boys have finally made the transition, from cute nu-poppers reminisent of certain 1960s bands to well-respected sexy indie rockers and possibly more importantly, from boys to men.
