Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Sony Computer Entertainment's popular cel-shaded RPG series comes to the PlayStation Portable system with a return of the original adventures of Prince Pinon of the first and second PlayStation instalments of the series, enhanced with new elements and updated details. Playing as Pietro, prince of the Popolocrois Kingdom, you head off on your first adventure in order to find a way to awaken your mom. Battles are now grided strategy, with you moving your party members in turn with enemies. In addition to standard attacks, magic attacks and character combination attacks, the game lets you summon beasts to help out. Dungeons also feature prominently in the game, requiring that you work through traps when not in battle.

Fun:
So, here it is, Popolocrois on PSP, and what do we think of it, well it's all right. The game follows a young boy named Pietro, prince of a kingdom called Popolocrois whose mother has fallen into a deep sleep and he desires to awake, the opening intro is excellent and you'll see and understand exactly what happened when you watch it, but i Don't want to spoil the surprise.

Graphically, the characters are all 2D in a 3D world, (there are a lot of games recently adopting this style,) Yet, they are too small to really highlight the details of the characters, and this is a little bit of a flaw. Yet the environments and character quirks are all nice. Villages are varied from the massive kingdom of Popolocrois, to the mountain regions, and the mining village of Godriff. Enemy design is good.

Basically, gameplay is the typical, go here, talk to lots of people, kill a lot of enemies affair. The game takes place in turn based combat, where characters can improve and learn inidividual special skills, and use experience to level up becoming stronger and stronger. There is also potential to upgrade your weapons. The game boasts around 60 gameplay, but the fights are too often and too frequent, requiring you to move your character and hit, i.e. too repetitive, but what this game has is an excellent story and very cute characters. A must have for RPG fans, but action fans may want to avoid.

I'm quite upset not to see any other reviews for this game. First released on the original PlayStation in 1996, this is your traditional 2d role-playing game. And very good it is too...

Of course, I havn't fully completed it yet, but sat down to play it in bed last sunday night with no work in the morning. The PERFECT GAME FOR THIS OCCASION. I was engrossed for about an hour when tiredness took its toll.

I know this isn't a totally informative review, but if you like traditional 2d RPGs, this is ideal.

I love this game so much.

The characters are drawn in a colourful, 2D style reminiscent of Final Fantasy's early games and Breath of fire 3. Everything moves in the world, the animations giving the characters depth.

I particularly like the anime, studio Ghibli style cutscenes complete with american dubbed voice acting, especially the narrator. Narcia's voice when she says 'Retribution' is nothing short of hilarious, however.

The battle system is turn based and has random battles galore, but they really never get as annoying or as frequent as some other titles. Having a grid battle system like Fire emblem or FF Tactics is a nice change too, and is extremely fun.

There are various strategies to employ in any one battle and the system gives you plenty of ways to exploit your enemies' weaknesses (and they yours). The only criticism i have is that sometimes the normal enemies are actually harder than the area bosses so you may find yourself keeping the avoid spell on Pietro constantly.

The characters in this game are lovable and just plain adorable. The music is also quite lovely, and i'll never get the witch's theme out of my head.

Unfortunately the game is kind of dated in its style, but if you're addicted to RPGs that are old school you won't mind.

Overall this game is really fun and extremely cute. Its nowhere near difficult however, so those looking for a challenge might want to give it a miss.
