Book Description

16 Nov 2002 1405105887 978-1405105880 2nd Edition
Igneous and metamorphic petrology has over the last twenty years expanded rapidly into a broad, multifaceted and increasingly quantitative science. Advances in geochemistry, geochronology, and geophysics, as well as the appearance of new analytical tools, have all contributed to new ways of thinking about the origin and evolution of magmas, and the processes driving metamorphism. This book is designed to give students a balanced and comprehensive coverage of these new advances, as well as a firm grounding in the classical aspects of igneous and metamorphic petrology. The emphasis throughout is on the processes controlling petrogenesis, but care is taken to present the important descriptive information so crucial to interpretation. One of the most up–to–date synthesis of igneous and metamorphic petrology available. Emphasis throughout on latest experimental and field data. Igneous and metamorphic sections can be used independently if necessary.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well worth getting 1 Nov 2004
Format:Paperback
I bought this book to start with while doing my A Level geology and used it for slight aspects due to it went into too much depth for A Level, although i did use it for my A2 coursework.
Now that I'm at university its a recommended text and well worth the investment i made at A Level. It covers everything you need to know in a clear and concise manner with case studies in the book.
Well worth the investment.

4.0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive title... 2 Sep 2011
Format:Paperback
This is a very good undergraduate level textbook with a strong emphasis on igneous, metamorphic and geodynamic processes. It includes discussions on recent research (at point of publishing), classic examples and good quality images that communicate to the reader clearly the concept/example being explained.

My only regret when using it as a student was that I hadn't bought it earlier - it would have been useful as supplementary reading on some of the courses I was doing. The writing was very clear and easy to follow and when straying beyond taught aspects of my courses I found the chapters covering these aspects to be very useful, balanced introductions to the subjects.

Format:Paperback
Way better than all other petrology books i've seen, especially for the great metamorphic rock fabric coverage. Definitely Highly recomended.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good Buy 1 Feb 2014

The book came brand new like advertised and at a decent price. I have seen it elsewhere for about $15-$20 less but am content with this order. I wouldn't hesitate to order from them again for future purchases.
