My kids love all the books in this category but the one they always seem to quote from and talk about is the latest one by Mitchell Symonds

The school run is greatly enlivened by gems from the book including this on yesterday's run when we were held up in traffic...that fact that it is a myth that cats and dogs don't like one another. Ours have always been great friends and the cat sits and waits for us when the dog is out for a walk and they curl up sleeps together when they can. And yet Tom and Jerry cartoons have always reinforced the mistaken idea that cats and dogs are enemies.

There was also a big discussion about where exactly what the precise middle of England - we all guessed wrong - and didn't even get the right county! And they all liked the what to do if you get stuck in quicksand... as our local river is supposed to have this at low tide and I have always banged on about how dangerous it is... anyway, they agreed to follow the author's advice to lie down, if ever they found themselves caught in it - and not try to climb out as that would make them sink faster - so lots of practical info and some great facts - for kids as well as adults. Grandad of course had a different view when we saw him and it provoked quite a lively discussion as he was convinced he had known someone who drowned in quicksand. My know it all kids soon put him right!

Very good value ....and gets my kids reading and away from the dreaded computer and tv for a while...

Having come across Mitchell's work before, I pretty much knew what to expect here as the king of mad trivia brings his talent to the young reader.

It's quirky, it's definitely a book for Dad's to share and a title that will bring to the fore a lot of household trivia. I did feel however that a couple of the author's facts needed checking as some tv shows have done the experiments such as Mythbusters who found that certain wasps would outlive the cockroach alongside missing the Templar connection to Friday the 13th which left me wondering how well researched a number of the other facts were.

I didn't expect this to be as brilliant as Why Eating Bogeys Is Good For You but it was!
Some of these books are trivia and some are questions and answers.
Me, I prefer the latter.
Keep 'em coming!

Trivia books and Xmas seem to have become a tradition in our house. This time I got mine early because I could not wait. It may say the book is for kids - but I don't care. I am 54 going on 10! Where does he get all his stuff from? Brilliant to dip in and out of. Roll on next Xmas!

Very funny, satisfies the curiosity. Great for children but gives just as much pleasure to the adults reading (or also listening, if you're reading out loud!). We have some of the other books in this series too. They are all good.
