Product Description

Product Description

This hard-hitting, hilarious novel is written in the first person by Rab Sinclair, a shelf-stacker who lives in Heroin Heights in Motherwell, Scotland. Rab, a fanatic of Celtic Football Club, has been stuck in a rut since he left school some eighteen years earlier. When he receives an email from Friends Reunited inviting him to a school reunion, he realises that he’ll have to make some quick changes if he is ever going to impress Caroline, an ex-girlfriend and classmate he has never quite got over.

Could Tam, a Rangers fan he meets in the local kebab shop, provide the key to Rab’s success?

As well as being a riveting adventure, 'If you fly with the crows...' explores the use of Scots in 21st century Scotland, laughs at religious bigotry and sexual prudence and demonstrates how Internet is taking over our lives.

'If you fly with the crows...' gives a hilarious and insightful look into the Scottish and, more specifically, Lanarkshire psyche. A great read, full of recognisable people, places and patter...and some exotic ones to boot. I couldn't put it down. I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes a laugh and some adventure along the way.

This is a great book. I read it on a computer screen as I don't yet have a Kindle. It's just so easy to read and I was always rooting for the main character. It's a really nice combo of deepest darkest Lanarkshire, the corruption of Colombia and the pleasures of Spain all rolled together in a big red, blue, green and white sheet and thrown at you with aplomb. Sillars writes his characters well and it's a nice touch that the main character has been learning to write creatively in order to impart his quirky tale...

A really good read, how can so much happen to a hapless shelf stacker from Lidl's? I almost believed I was reading a biography but then I thought.... Hang on, go back, read that again. Columbian drug barons?, the CIA?, Sex toy dealers?, Ali's kebab shop? Buy it, you'll love it.

Your colour, age, job, place of birth, religion and other affiliations are really of no importance if you scratch below the surface. We’re all just frightened little human beings trying to make it through life. I find that the older I get, the less certainties I have and the whole thing just gets scarier and scarier, like it’s all slipping away from me. It’s probably best not to think about it too much. "e;
