Product Description

Review

A menagerie of jungle critters engage in some foot-stomping, hand-clapping, rip-roaring sing-along fun that just begs for audience participation. Using the lyrics to the classic song, a sassy monkey invites readers to clap their hands to show it. A mammoth pink elephant encourages everyone to stamp their feet, a towering orange giraffe asks all to nod their heads and a feisty lion urges listeners to roar out loud. Each exuberant creature perfectly matches the activity it promotes, from the kissing hippos with their wide mouths to the jumping frog with his springy legs. Cabrera's primitive illustrations are big, bold and brilliant, allowing each action-packed animal to explode across a double-paged spread in riotous colors and abstract shapes that keep pace with the rhythmic lyrics. Guaranteed to get preschoolers (and maybe their sleepy caregivers) moving. (Picture book. 3-6) (Kirkus Reviews) --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Product Description

Join in with the familiar sing-along song and clap your hands with cheeky monkey, stamp your feet with enormous elephant, spin around with the confused looking lima and blow a kiss to hippo and baby hippo in the waterlily pond.

Family fun 9 Aug 2006
Format:Paperback
My three-year-old loves this book. She chose it herself because it has a lion on the front, but what is inside keeps her coming back. She wants me to sing it to her over and over again and does all the motions. She now has it memorized. It gets a little tedious alone, but it seems to be contagious, because my husband and older daughter inevitably end up singing along.

A book that makes you happy! 24 Feb 2006
By E. Weiner - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is great for children who are familiar with the song that it is based on. My two year old grandson loved this book the first time we read it together. He knew what was coming and participated right along with the words in the book. The new verses were interesting to him too, and I assume he will soon readily participate with those verses as well. A very fun book for a toddler...

We're More Than Happy with This Book 26 Aug 2007
By Holly Ann Hodge - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
We first checked this book out of our local library. My 17 month old daughter loves it. She already knows the song and does the clapping and stomping. She now loves to nod her head w/the giraffe, roar our loud w/the lion, go kiss kiss w/the hippo, say squeak squeak w/the mouse, flap her arms w/the bird, jump around w/the frog, and spin around. Even w/over 200 books in her home library, we knew this one was a keeper. Highly recommended.

The favorite book of our 3-year-old 8 Dec 2006
By Heather Martin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
He loves the bright pictures. He loves the animals. He loves the fun, silly movements. We've read this more times than I can count. He has it memorized and 'reads' it to himself while doing the motions. Our 6-year-olds usually join it, too.

I imagine most pre-school aged kids will enjoy this book as much as ours does. Just be prepared to read it 10 times in a row. Seven or eight times a day.
