Book Description

The third in a series of true short stories from foster carer Mia Marconi.

Brody had been on the at-risk register since birth but was only removed from his alcoholic parents when he reached the age of six. Foster carer Mia Marconi was thrilled when he first arrived – a boy the same age as her son.

It can be so bewildering for foster children when they arrive. The older ones are usually withdrawn and sullen. The younger ones will be screaming, spitting at you, making themselves sick and throwing themselves on the floor.

For Mia, it’s normally her boisterous, happy children who provide the comfort at the beginning, because why should they trust another adult. Children always feel safe and secure when there are other children about. Mia believes it’s through making relationships with other children that they begin to trust adults again. But little did she know that six-year-old Brody was actually taking his anger and frustration out on her son. She quickly begins to realise the heavy price her family has had to pay.

if you haven't read the first two books of Mia's then it's a good story. being a foster carer myself for over 18 years some things ring home. the bad point is in her previous book Mia had a 3rd daughter name Isobella (hubby Martin disappointed he didn't get a son) in this book they have 3 daughters and twins Isobella and Alfie???
must be based on a true story not a true story !

Mia Marconi writes the most realistic books ! And I have been a foster carer for 20 years I,ve read other books by foster carers but find Mia tells it how it is ! It is refreshing for a carer to say how fostering affects your own families and life's rather than dramatising stories

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great read 22 Mar. 2015

I chose the 5 star as always Mias books are so gd and once you start reading you just have to keep reading till it's finished. I read this one in an hour as just couldn't stop. A very strong person to go through this and for the upset it had caused to her family knowing of the bullying. As you say there is only so much you can do for a child that doesn't want to be helped and go back to the dysfunctional family. Only time will tell. Gd that he kept in contact with Mia
