5.0 out of 5 stars If I Die by Rachel Vincent 3 Oct 2011
By Amber
Format:Paperback
As always, the newest book in the Soul Screamers series totally tops its predecessor in so many ways. The plot is amazing, the characters are swoon worthy slash lovable slash people I want to kill, and the writing was - of course - incredible.

If you've read the synopsis then you know that Kaylee finds out she's going to die. This book would not be complete without even more complications that come in the form of Kaylee and Emma's teach, Mr Beck, who isn't really human. There are also weird things happening with young girls in and around the town. Sound complicated, right? That's because it is. There are so many things going on in this book, and yet it never seems to get `crowded', for want of a better word. The plot is perfect, along with the pacing.

Kaylee is awesome, as always. I love her so, so much, and I loved reading about her coming to terms with her death - kind of - whilst also trying to figure out a number of mysteries at the same time. Kaylee is definitely one of my favourite characters in YA, she's just fantastic! She's also pretty badass in this book with all the fighting and punching she does!

I don't think I even need to go into what I think about Tod. You should all know he's amazing, and that I am in love with him. He was so, so sweet in this book! He does so much for Kaylee in this book, while his brother just stands around being useless. I love him *happy tears* He is the most adorable thing on the planet, he really is. *swoons*

As for Nash... I hate him. Nothing has changed since my last review so I don't need to go into detail, but as far as I'm concerned Sabine can have him. Oh! I really liked Sabine in this book! She's not as bad as I once thought.

The ending was definitely the best part of the book. It starts to really pick up with around 100 pages to go, and just keeps building. I will warn you, you are going to cry. I had to go to school with puffy eyes because I had been crying so much the night before after finishing this book. No, I won't tell you why I was crying - you'll have to go and buy the book, because it just won't be the same coming from me!

I was so nervous about reading this book after reading some of the non-spoilery reviews that are on Goodreads. So. Nervous. But I shouldn't have worried, because the whole thing was incredible and mind-blowing. It's my favourite book in the series so far! I don't know if Before I Wake and the final book will be able to compare. Oh, this was great.

If you haven't picked up this series yet, I seriously don't know what you're waiting for. It's my favourite series ever, and definitely compares with Vampire Academy and The Hunger Games' qualities. Go get it!

If I Die was an extremely fun and entertaining read. I couldn't put it down no matter how hard I tried. Rachel Vincent will drag you into the world of paranormal creatures.

I must say, my opinion of the characters have changed, A LOT. I used to love Nash, but little things made me pull away, dislike him. And who was there to make everything better? TOD! Sigh, I want him. He is kind. He is caring. He is gorgeous. He is supportive. He is what I, and all girls out there, want. HEAR THAT BOYS?! You wanna girl? Read this series.

Sabine, as always, was a real pain. I really couldn't bring myself to like her. She had her occasional moments of brilliance, I'll give her that, but I still didn't like her. Her personality didn't really appeal to me. Kaylee, on the other hand, is an enjoyable main character who I loved to read about.

Anyway, Rachel Vincent has done an amazing job creating a believable and exciting world that will have you wishing it were real. I can't wait to read Before I wake, I believe it's going to BRILLIANT!

5.0 out of 5 stars By far Rachel Vincent's best work. 6 Feb 2012
Format:Paperback
"He shrugged, looking right into my eyes. "Right now, this is all I feel." He held our intertwined hands up for me to see and I wanted to look away, but I couldn't break the hold his gaze had on me, like he could see more than anyone else saw. Things I couldn't see myself."

If I Die was definitely my favourite book in the Soul Screamers series so far and I cannot wait to see what comes next from this talented author.

Kaylee Cavanaugh is trying to get back to normal after in the events in My Soul to Steal and she's even trying to get things back on track with her boyfriend Nash. After all they've been through, they finally decide to take things nice and slow but once again Kaylee's crazy and dangerous life gets in the way. When Kaylee finds out she's next on the reapers list - to die, she does everything she can to try and take her mind off of her inevitable death. So when a girl at her school becomes pregnant and Kaylee watches her miscarry, she makes it her mission to find who is responsible. But what Kaylee doesn't realise is that there is an Incubus at her school, one whose out to get want he wants - a baby and Kaylee is in more danger than ever. Can someone save Kaylee before it's too late? Or is her borrowed life at an end already?

Even re-reading the blurb for this book makes me remember what a fantastic and emotional read it really was. If you thought the last book was good, wait until you read this one because you will be completely blown away. I personally think Rachel Vincent's work gets better and better and it reminds me, I still need to try her other series' because all I hear is glowing reviews about them.

The storyline to If I Die was one hell of a ride. With Kaylee being the one in danger, we see a completely different side to her - one that is happy to accept her fate but she does try to get in a few things that she has never experienced in before she dies. I liked seeing this side of her, one that was completely reckless but also calm and collected too. What I admire most about Kaylee is that she doesn't once waver from trying to save someone else's life and she puts everyone else's needs before her own. A very admiral trait.

All the other characters play a huge part in this story and they also have an emotional ride too. There is so much going on in this book because they all want to try and save Kaylee but the realisation that they can't, hits them like a ton of bricks and some more than others.

Now the big question - am I TEAM NASH or TEAM TOD? You know how I feel about Nash but he shocked me to my core in this book. I love Nash 100% but he has seriously lost his way and I want him back. My problem is as much as I love Nash and Kaylee together, I cannot help but question.....are they ever going to get back what they once had? And I'm honestly not sure right now. I really like Tod and if anything I like him even more but with the shocking twists and turns that Kaylee takes as a character, I cannot help think that Tod is right person for Kaylee at this moment in time. So again....am I TEAM NASH or TEAM TOD? Ummmmm...... I'm undecided at this stage but I cannot wait for Before I Wake so I can figure things out.

Overall, another awesome novel by Rachel Vincent! 4.5 out of 5. A must read!
