I Like This 5 Jan 2010
By RozziD VINE™ VOICE
As a maths teacher, I am constantly looking for student friendly software to help my classes achieve the best grades they possibly can. While I don't believe that any of these study guides/revision software programmes can ever replace good teaching, I do believe that they can help with the revision process. This CD-Rom from Britanica is certainly one of the better ones I have come accross, so much so that I have recommended it to some of the students I tutor on a private basis.

The lessons are really well put together and in most cases, don't assume vast amounts of prior knowledge, but go through the topics step by step, giving the student plenty of opportunity to practice the lessons being given.

The software itself is well thought out and the graphics are great. The 'virtual' calculators supplied are easy to use and so far i have not found any problems with running the programmes.

It has a great feature whereby students can test themselves on all the topics and the results are saved for later. Each test is designed to be done more than once and each sucessive attempt will save the results so that progress can be seen.

As someone over 60 and not having done any maths since college I decided to give the old gery cells a work out. I found this couse very well set out explaing problem solving as you went along with a test at the end. If you are taking GCSE Maths at school I would recomend you give it a try.

A bit light on content 8 April 2012

I got this for my daughter who is in year 10 and loves learning using the computer. It covers the basics in an interesting and fun way but that's all. I would concider it light on content and some of the examples are alittle quirky to say the least. In contrast my daughter likes it and uses it quite often but also finds in wanting in depth.
