Product Description

Review

"Although discussion of the politics of the school curriculum is now much more common than it was twenty-five years ago, Michael Apple's "Ideology and Curriculum remains one of the most compelling and insightful accounts of how ideology actually works in and through the overt and hidden curricula of schooling and school reform."
-Geoff Whitty, Director, Institute of Education, University of London
"This third edition of "Ideology and Curriculum probes the complicated connections between and among 'legitimate' knowledge, teaching, and power, serving to place front and center issues related to schools as social organizations, as well as the practices of teachers, youth, and parents across social class, race, and ethnicity. This extraordinary new edition is a must-read for anyone interested in the way schools work."
-Lois Weis, Professor, The University at Buffalo, State University of New York
"Michael Apple's "Ideology and Curriculum has withstood the test of relevance and time. This new edition will serve as a clarion call to the new cadres of critical scholars who find contemporary scholarship on schooling wanting and the conservative direction of contemporary educational and public policy intolerable."
-Cameron McCarthy, Research Professor and University Scholar, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Product Description

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of its publication, Michael W. Apple has thoroughly updated his influential text, and written a new preface. The new edition also includes an extended interview circa 2001, in which Apple relates the critical agenda outlined in Ideology and Curriculum to the more contemporary conservative climate. Finally, a new chapter titled "Pedagogy, Patriotism and Democracy: Ideology and Education After 9/11" is also included.

Excellent Book! 19 Feb 2010
By Kirsten T. Edwards - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is an excellent text to help any reader especially those working in Academia better understand the historical (and current)underlining (and often troubling) purpose of United States education. It's an easy to read, straight-forward text that highlights the "hidden curriculum" our students are receiving and how we as critically-concious, socially just educational advocates can better equip ourselves for the work ahead of us.

Great book marred by errors 24 Feb 2011
By Austin Smith - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
While the book itself is an essential read for any individual entering into the field of education, this version is by far inferior to the standard paperback copy of the text. It is marred by numerous typographical errors. Most commonly the letter 'c' has a tendency to show up in the middle of words throughout the book. On almost any given page I can usually find at least two to three instances of this error. The book itself is wonderful, informative and straightforward, but if you're looking to buy a copy of the book, buy the paperback.

One of the most important books on educational policy in the last century. 27 May 2007
By Lawrence R. Schultz - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
One of the most books to read in education policy and practice in the last one hundred years.
