Product Description

Identity, a new six-part drama starring Keeley Hawes (Ashes to Ashes, Mutual Friends) and Aidan Gillen (The Wire, Queer As Folk), follows an elite police unit formed to combat the explosion of identity theft. From murderers who take over victims' lives and criminals who create personas to escape dark secrets, to impostors who look, talk and sound just like us but would kill in a heartbeat.

Ed Whitmore's series exposes the dark side of reinvention. DSI Martha Lawrence (Hawes) fought hard to form the Identity Unit. Some call it her baby, others career suicide. Her gamble includes a handpicked team of experts with colourful personalities and forceful egos, none more so than DI Michael Bloom (Gillen), an ex-undercover cop who knows what it's like to pretend to be someone you are not, and how easy it is to lose yourself when living a lie, and the ambitious DS Waring (Shaun Parkes - Moses Jones), infuriated by Martha's indulgence of Bloom's cavalier methods and suspicious that Bloom has a secret himself. Martha must fight to keep the unit together as they unravel the psychology behind identity theft, and resort to ever increasing extremes to catch this modern day Jekyll and Hyde.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mundane ITV drama 13 Sep 2012
By Mikey TOP 100 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
This drama which was screeened weekly by ITV was thankfully not commissioned for a second series. That's good as none of the cast seem to gel in this series, many of the scenarios in the series seem quite unlikely and the major plot running throughout the series is quite ludicrous.
There's far better out there than this.
Don't waste your time!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 5 Feb 2013
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Sadly, this TV series is a little average, certainly limp compared to most US series. Writing is weak, full of cliches. Direction weak too.
Cast is a too PC and not a great cast. I think Keeley Hawes was great in Touching Velvet and Ashes to Ashes, but her performance here is not great, and despite looking great in Boot's ad, here she certainly doesn't look her best. Someone should shoot her costume designer/costumer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 7 Feb 2011

Somehow I missed this series when it was shown on TV, but it is really excellent and you get hooked immediately..I had to watch all the episodes one after another! If you like suspense, you will like this..each episode stands alone, but there is a storyline running through the series..

5.0 out of 5 stars Clever and surprisingly good 25 Aug 2010
Format:DVD
I loved the series! I was pleasantly surprised how well Aidan fit into this role. I generally like most of his work anyway. He's believable in pretty much everything he does as he commits himself 100% to his character. If you don't believe me, watch him in Queer As Folk. He was brilliant.

I can't say enough good things about the rest of the actors in this, especially Keeley. I felt she and Aidan played their undeniable chemistry perfectly with expression rather than words. Any actor can deliver a line, but to be able to read longing, pain, love, disdain etc. in their face while exchanging a glance is what sets the good ones apart from the rest.

I've been watching Keeley's other stuff as a result of this series and am impressed by her diversity. It is because of Identity that I noticed her. I live in Canada and don't get to see much UK drama unfortunately. I never feel it's a bad thing when a role turns someone into a new fan. I'm now a devoted Keeley fan, lol.

I'd encourage anyone to give this series a look. It's clever with some decent action and has you caring about the characters and their interactions more than you might think...the focus is on Aidan and Keeley's characters, but I found the others interesting too...had the series gone on, it would have been nice to see them develop. Six episodes doesn't leave a lot of time for numerous focuses and I think the writer was smart to keep the storyline more about John and Martha with them playing off the others on occasion.

While I can understand some may not like this series, that's fine. Why watch it? I see one guy who left a rather poisonous review here watched the whole series. I have to wonder why if he didn't like it from the get go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Show 27 Jan 2013
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I saw this series on cable television a couple of years ago, and really enjoyed it. Great storylines with plenty of variety, interesting characters, about whom questions are constantly being raised so you can never be comfortable with them. The only criticism I have is that there was only one series made of Identity, particularly frustrating with all the open leads left at the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great series 8 Jan 2013
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This series was very entertaining. The story lines within the series kept me interested. I'm surprised that this series only lasted on season. I read that ABC in the USA will produce an identical series but I don't think it will be as good as this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than the Reviews on here 6 Nov 2012
Format:DVD
My wife and I just finished watching this show in two days. We usually don't do that. It was just that good. Aidan Gillan is wonderful here as he was on Thorne Mysteries. He does internally crippled good guy better than anyone except Idris Elba on Luthur. I loved Keely Hawes on MI 5 and loved her here in the sort of thankless Mary Tyler Moore role.
Are there better shows out there? Yes, but that's like saying when you review a play, say August: Osage County, yes there is Long Days Journey and Whos Afraid of Virginia Woolf etc, but if you've seen all the great ones how about a very good one! Identy is very good....not The Wire, not MI 5 nor in my opinion is it as good as Scott and Bailey or Luthur but I really liked it and it was 6 good hours of good TV. Better than most of the stuff out there.
