"Identity Crisis" was, sadly, the final collaboration of Andy Scott, Steve Priest and Mick Tucker as Sweet. Brian Connolly had left the band in 1979, but the trio of albums produced by Scott,Priest and Tucker ("Cut Above The Rest","Waters Edge","Identity Crisis") were all excellent, and quite different, rock albums.
The band had already split up by the time "Identity Crisis" was released in November 1982. Compounded by the fact that the album was only released in Germany and I think South Africa, although I'm not 100% sure, and had probably been recorded in late 1980/ early 1981, "Identity Crisis" deserved a wider audience as Sweet provided driving guitar fired rock with melodies to kill for.
Devoid of keyboards for the majority of the album Andy Scott's guitar riffs and growls through killer tracks like "Identity Crisis","Falling In Love" and "Hey Mama".
No singles were released from this album, but the incredibly catchy "Love Is The Cure" or the quirky "Two Into One" had the potential to storm any music chart.
To give you an idea of the style of "Identity Crisis" the Def Leppard song "Demolition Man" would not be out of place amongst this collection of songs.
"Identity Crisis", as the last track "Strange Girl" fades into the distance, leaves you wanting more.......it wasn't to be. Sweet deserved to go from glam rock gods to hard rock heroes, sadly it didn't happen......but I recommend you backtrack and catch up with the legacy Sweet left us.
Enjoy !!!!
