Product Description

Complete first series of the dark BBC comedy, starring Johnny Vegas. Moz (Vegas) is a small-time Manchester drug-dealer, who rarely steps outside his squalid flat, to the irritation of his long-suffering girlfriend Nicki (Nicola Reynolds). In this series, Moz has to put up with rival dealer Psycho Paul (Ryan Pope), tries to seduce a customer, and becomes worried when a body is found across the road with its hands cut off. Episodes are: 'The Rat'; 'The Seduction'; 'The Boyfriend'; 'The Affair'; 'The Backpacker'; 'The Party'; 'The Pregnancy'; and 'The Body'.

Synopsis

Moz (Johnny Vegas) has been dealing drugs for over twenty years from his small bedsit in Manchester which he shares with his girlfriend, Nicki. But despite his chosen profession Moz is a man of principles - he deals only in the best quality marijuana and nothing else. He is providing a crucial service to the local community, which pretty much extends as far as his closest friends: Kuldip, an Asian DJ and police constable who is also Moz's chief cannabis supplier; Jane, the childminder from hell; Brian, a camp scally who seems to have a new boyfriend every week and a man who always wears a cartoon mask, simply known as 'Cartoon Head'.

DVD Extras: Publicity info, 'Making Of' out- takes, deleted scenes and commentary on episodes 3,5,6 and 8

It's been a while since I've enjoyed a TV series so much I've purposefully stayed in to watch new episodes! The BBC produces the finest comedy around and 'Ideal' just adds to the list! Fantastic characters like Troy, Colin and Cartoon Head, a great performance from Vegas, shady and atmospheric production styles and a well devised soundtrack make 'Ideal' a refreshing original dark humoured comedy. I didn't give Series 1 much of a look-in when it first aired but thought I'd buy this DVD anyways and put it 'on probation'! Got all my mates into it now and hooked on Series 2!

5.0 out of 5 stars Jonny Vegas at his smoking best 8 Mar 2006
Format:DVD
Wasn't sure if I would enjoy this, but after a few minutes of the first programme I was hooked. What a refreshing change from the endless hours of mind-numbing pap we are subjected to on mainstream channels. One of the few innovative series in recent years. Here's looking forward to the next (soon) series.

By A. Cresswell TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I have to say this is a funny but also depressingly accurate picture of a typical urban small time dealer. In my student days I seem to run across this kind of person and the people in the series all the time. they're all here... from the stereotypical cute girls looking for a free ride to the psycho who's done way to much and needs to be avoided. The moment I saw 'Moz' playing his PS2 and his dealer table set up I started to chuckle. Brought some old memories back and made me laugh too. Nostagic trip (no pun intended) for some of us I think. Simple Sit-Com humour for others :)

Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST COMEDY I'VE EVER SEEN ! 16 Dec 2005
Format:DVD
This is not only the best comedy I've seen in the last year but also the best comedy I've ever seen. This series is great for anyone who enjoys comedy and drama. I recomend that you should also check out the soundtrack album which is also available.
Besure to catch the Christmas special on the 27th of December on BBC-3 and the second series in the new year.
Never have I enjoyed a program more than this.

4.0 out of 5 stars ideal to watch 27 Jun 2006
By trigger
Format:DVD
A dark and surreal comedy that gradually becomes pretty compelling.

Some of the characters are a little bazzar but you soon warm to them.

If you appreciate new comedy then ideal is worthy of investigation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just What The Docter Ordered 7 Mar 2008
Format:DVD
Fresh, original, funny and gripping. This is by far one of the best comedy's that has hit BBC Three, straight up their with Little Britain, but for completely different reasons. Moz is a small time nobody, who deals pot for a living. The whole show is centered on his flat with people coming to visit to score some weed. Each character is different and holds a separate story we learn of as the series goes on. Most of the time Moz ends up on the crap end of the stick, and bullied into things by local nutter, Physco Paul and Cartoon head, Cartoon Head being my favorite. The story is good enough to keep you gripped and coming back for more, the characters are likable, and most importantly the central character, as played by legendary drunk, Johnny Vegas, is attachable. With the third season hitting stores soon and the fourth season airing later this year, its the perfect time to catch up or get into Ideal

Also if you enjoyed this, you may enjoy a similar comedy, called Top Buzzer, you can pick it up cheap on DVD, easily recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent series - humane and engaging. 27 Mar 2006
Format:DVD
I get a bit sick of gag based shows. I also find the "who's grosser than the last lot" genre a bit tiresome these days. So now I'm after something with humanity and pathos as well as the uncomfortable situations that drive any half-way decent sit-com.
And so we arrive at "Ideal". It's perfect for J.Vegas and he for it. I love the slightly uncomfortable "friendship" he has with his shady associates.
This is essentially pretty old-fashioned stuff. A group of people stuck in a situation they can't really escape from and grinding along together as best they can. Of course the door to chez Moz is never locked but the characters are pretty much trapped in their little reality none-the-less. The only modern facet is the blatant dope consumption and trade. Perhaps it gives the dope dealer the same lovable rogue status as "Porridge" afforded burglars, forgers and fraudsters.
I suggest that you buy this forthwith and if you are pleased with your purchase then may I point you towards another criminally under-rated and ignored gem from BBC3. I refer to the mighty "Grass", which comes from the "Fast Show" stable, but is more in keeping with the "Ideal" idea than the laugh a minute "Fast Show" ethic. "Grass", I might add, refers to the Police informer type rather than the popular herbal remedy. After years of being studiously ignored by the taste free zone otherwise known as the mass of the British Viewing Public it is finally due a DVD release in June. I urge you to buy it and put "Grass" firmly in the bosum of those of us who still quite like people to be fairly nice.

3.0 out of 5 stars I'll give it a chance 7 Dec 2010
Format:DVD
This review is from an American fan of British comedies.
I have only watched the first series and am left with the desire to watch more but I can't really explain why. It's not particularly funny in a typical U.S. sitcom comedy way and it's definitely a dark comedy. For some strange reason it reminds me of the 80's comedy "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman." Both take the day-to-day lives of an unconventional main character and his/her family, neighbors, and acquaintances and just run with the bizarre happenings. Both feel like a soap opera satire (although it was very intentional with Hartman) that hooks you with a plot line too intriguing to stop watching. Ideal is a very modern soap opera satire to me.
Like Mary, one sometimes feels sorry for Moz and he's well acted by J.V. I enjoy some of the supporting characters...especially the teen girl baby-minder from Hell.
Ideal is an acquired taste and one only for the adventurous adult. I'm interested to see how my opinion changes as I progress through the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars The hours are bad but the perks even it out.
The ideal TV sit-com; eccentric, dark as well as humorous. Imagine if the show Weeds took place in Manchester, with a large overweight man and was actually funny.
