The track list is a cutting edge assortment of music styles from different decades with a post-hacienda flavour ranging from; A Guy Called Geralds "Voodoo Ray" to Mercury Music Prize award nominees The Go Teams "Get It Together". The album also includes well-known classic tracks and lesser-known releases from underground labels such as Warp, Melodic, Grand Central, Mute and Bad Magic.

I don't typically write Amazon reviews. In fact, this is probably the first solely by virtue of the quality of the tracks on this OST.
Whilst I make no bones about the fact that I consider Ideal to be one of the funniest and best observed comedies on television in recent years, the degree to which the music used in the series has got under my skin came as something of a surprise. As Ideal's writer, Graham Duff, points out in the sleeve notes to the OST, soundtracks are frequently teriible - ranging from opportunistic positioning of recent 'chart hits' to aid sales to the generally dire 'music inspired by' albums. The Ideal OST - fortunately - is not guilty of either of the above oft committed 'crimes' and parcels some classic tracks (e.g Voodoo Ray) that have me grinning nostalgically with gems that I would have been unlikely ever to come across (e.g. Everything & Anything). Across all 21 tracks, the OST perfectly encaptures the microcosm that Moz inhabits with tunes that grab you and become instant favourites (at least until the next track starts!). Yes, it's that good.

Nicely Nicely Fella,
By Rogue Monkey "Rogue Monkey" (Blackburn) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ideal (Audio CD)
Excellent album for anyone who likes the TV series but probably a bit odd for anyone who hasn't seen it - it's an eclectic mix of songs and quite atmospheric. There's some sound bites from the TV series between some of the songs which is amusing although doesn't include classics such as "I'm on probation", "Int 'e scrummy" etc.
