I thought this product deserved a good review. I bought it after a HDD spending spree on Amazon, I had a couple of spare TB's and needed to put them to good use. As I am sure many of you can empathize I cant afford many more cables or power supplies in my house, they are absolutely everywhere! So I thought a 2 into 1 would be perfect. In terms of transfer speeds the USB2 is more than efficient for the two drives to be accessed simultaneuosly. I have attached them to my router as a NAS on my home network. But I do quite a lot of work from home and the ease with which I can swap the drives over has saved me a lot of time! A friends PC failed and he wanted his media from it before any attempts were made to fix it. So I just threw it out of the chasis and straight into this ICY BOX. 2 mins work, and I didnt even have to think out getting out any SATA or associated cabling as I would have before.
Another thing, this is a very stylish box thats well finished and beautifully slim. Theres an adjustable fan on the back which doesnt make much noise at all. I dont usually have it on unless I am running the drives simultaneously for a period of time. But I think its always nice to have the option of passive/active cooling on a caddy.
All in all 10 out of 10...5/5 etc etc.

I already have an Icy Box External HDD case and when I found myself needing a new one to house a spare drive I had, I came across this beauty. reasonably priced, does the job nicely and presents itself to windows / OSX as two distinct drives. It's not quite as nicely made as my other Icy Box but it's more than adequate and it's very easy to insert / take out drives as you need to. It also saves a little space and mess by doing the job of two cases but only using one power supply unit and one mains cable.
I now have the old case as a spare waiting for another drive when I need more storage (which will no doubt be soon).
Be aware though that this is in no way a RAID array or anything like that. It's effectively 2 x External USB HDD cases in one unit. I have seen it described somewhere as JBOD (Just a Bunch of Disks), which suggests some sort of clever RAID functionality but it's not.
Once you have that in mind, I have no hesitation recommending this unit.
I now have the old case as a spare waiting for another drive when I need more storage (which will no doubt be soon).

The Jbod is a great product. Its easy to use you just open the bay doors and slide in the oem drives with no need for cabling, The jbod needs no software to be installed unless you want to use the backup software. Which is supplied. (I did not test this)
My current configuration is using 2 Western Digital Caviar 2TB SATAII 64MB Cache 3.5-inch Green Internal Hard Drive OEM with Windows 7.
The drives appear on the computer via one usb cable as separated drives.(so if your short on usb connections you should definitely purchase this)
I am currently using the drives as data storage backup for video and photos. Accessing is as fast as other externals such as the Toshiba 3.5 inch and Western Digital Mybook and the Samsung Story external drives.
The Jbod has a built in fan which is fairly quite on the low setting (it is a bit noisy on the highest settings), you can change the settings manually by a switch on the back.
I have mine turned off as the drives still remains cool under heavy usage.
This is a great unit to purchase if you want to access information on another older or faulty computer, as you can just take out the drive and slide it in to the jbod to recover and access the information easily.
In conclusion i would highly recommend this product for those using external hard drives as this is a cheaper alternative. The use of only one usb cable to access 2 drives is another highly recommended reason to purchase this. The only real negative for me is that the doors on the front are a bit fragile so being too rough could snap them.
(i'm looking to test this with two 3tb oem hard drives when I can get hold of them. I'll update my review to let you know if the 6tb can be accessed)

Although this is expensive, for what is essentially a hard drive caddy, it is really is very good. The discs are hot swappable, and you can change them in seconds. Read more
