First impressions where very good with this product. Very well presented indeed, box is fab, bag is even better, the straighteners themselves look better than ever with more detailing on the outside and even a lcd display as well as the ever present GHD hologram for authenticity. The cover for the ends for travelling with your unit still hot is a very welcom touch and one of those "oh yeah why didn't they think of that ages ago" kinda things but never the less a welcome edition so far the usual GHD quality is there if not excelled but this IS a product and not a fashion item (ok ok the bag is) so let us delve a little deeper.
I own 2 other sets of GHD's, WidePlates (which I have had for over 7 years, and Mark 4's which I have had for over 3 years both work as well now as the day I bought them so GHD's standards of quality are exceptional and I have no reason to belive that these will be any different as the build quality on the outside is even better than my previous/current products............however... performance wise these are NOT up to the normal GHD standard, I find the ceramic plates to be too narrow and straightening long hair to be more difficult than either of my others. The barrel is chunky and rounded which I guess will be better for curling but GHD's are know for being at the pinacle of there feild for STRAIGHTENERS not curlers so I feel the emphasis should be more on the ceramic plates and there ability to straighten well and maybe curling as a secondary feature and I feel this has been done the opposite way around.
The plates do not seem to be as hot as my MK4's and all in all I felt a little let down with the general performance of this unit, had this been my first GHD experience I would not have bought into the hype and certainly would not have been happy with the price I had paid.
All in all these are still very good straightners but do not justify the price OR live up to the GHD legacy. My advice to to buy alternative GHD's but be sure to get them from a trusted source as there are counterfeits about that LOOK pretty good but and to a new customer would be hard to distinquish between fakes and genuine articles but performance is terrible.
I love my GHD's and will stick with them, but this item I'm afraid is all packageing and very little product!

These are the first pair of ghd straighteners that I've had to use. I have been using a considerably cheaper pair (Philips HP8361/07 ProCare Keratin Hair Straighteners) for some time. I was interested to know what extra you get for your money with ghd that you don't get with lower priced straighteners? Largely it seems to come down to presentation with some element of superior build quality. If these are for a gift then the recipient will not fail to be impressed - a beautiful box with a glittery sleeve on top. Open up the box and inside is a tissue packaged handbag style bag which contains the straighteners and accessories. In addition to the bag, the accessories include some hair clips and a heat-proof cover for the end of the straighteners - very useful. Switch the straighteners on (switch on the inside) and wait a matter of seconds before a bleep indicates that they are ready to use. There is only one temperature, so unlike the ones I am used to using, these can't be adjusted to suit hair type. The plates run smoothly through hair and create a smooth and silky finish. The build quality is of a high standard and they feel very well made. The only small issue is getting the straighteners back into the bag - it's a tight fit.
Easy to use, good quality with a good result but ultimately you are paying a lot for the ghd name and a pretty bag. The finish to my hair, while good, is no different than the lower priced straighteners I'm familiar with.

The clutch bag is neat and stylish, but the straighteners only just fit in and have to be given some force to push in and pull out. When in the bag the cable is being stressed (bending). One of the biggest failings of GHDs is the swivel connector. The wire snaps inside and cannot be repaired. The whole cable has to be replaced. You only need to look on eBay to see how widely available they are and how many are sold. The over bending of the cable in the bag is sure to lead to premature wear as the cable design has not been altered. When you are paying this much money for the whole package, you want it all to be perfect.
On the plus side:
The actual straighteners are top class, they heat up noticeably faster than standard GHDs and as an added safety they cut out after 30 mins, so no worrying about having left them switched on.
Another bonus for me was the safety cap - didn't have one on my last pair. The safety cap fits securely in place and it can be put on as soon as you have finished. Despite the plates being hot the heat doesn't penetrate the cap and is safe to handle - so far it hasn't distorted from the heat.
The plates are very smooth and easy to clean. They straighten hair with as little as one swipe depending upon how stubborn you hair is or what style you are after. They fit well in the hand and are comfortable to hold.
If you are going to want to keep the straighteners in the bag I would advise a different style bag.
