(REAL NAME)
It's been 13 years since their debut 'Self Abused' an underrated classic from the 90's. Smash initially split in 1996 but reformed in 2004, they've played a handful of gigs around London for their hardcore fanbase. They released an E.P. in 2005, but this is their first long-player since their reformation.

The album opens with the pixiesque 'Scratch Until You Bleed' which is layered with melodic hooks, and is played with a sense of urgency. Mellower tracks such as 'It's A Shame' and '15 years' have a guest female vocalist and strings, giving it a Velvet Underground feel. Which is a nice contrast to the rest of the album. (Vocalist) Ed's voice does start to crack on 'Morphine For The Pain', and the production is a little on the tinny side.

On first listen I wasn't too impressed, aside from three standout tracks( All by Myself, Cried at the time and Scratch Until You Bleed) the rest of the album seemed a bit mediocre. However a few listens later they all start to grow on you. 7/10

Aside from being underproduced and have one or two dodgy lyrics, this is a very solid return for Smash. I saw them live last week and they put on a great show, and are very accomplished musicians. I also recommend you buy their debut, which is currently £1.50 here on Amazon.
If you're a fan on the Pixies or Mclusky you'll love this band.
