Both Heart of Winter and Icewind Dale use AD&D Second Edition rules, however some of the special powers and abilities in the Third Edition are available in the expansion. For example, thieves have access to Sneak Attack and Crippling Strike abilities, and the new spell progression tables for rangers and paladins have been taken from the Third Edition rules. In addition to new areas, powers and abilities, Heart of Winter features: new portraits, new player character sound sets, new monsters, 50 new spells, 800x600 resolution, drop-away interface, gem bags, potion bags, scroll cases, hot key that highlights normal doors and ground items, and the ability to buy multiple items from stores. The biggest change is the ability for all character classes to reach 30th Level, and Druids can advance higher still.
You can control several person in the same time, different person has different ability... also there is many person for you to choose, good? The game is interesting and many subquests will keep you busy, also they bring you into the game further, create the personality is the key of the game, you could play a good person or a devil, choice is yours. That also made replay interesting...
It's nice, but the system is a bit too similiar to the classic game Baldur's Gate(which produced by the same company). I have to say they are twins... From the drawing style, game style and some sub-storyline are very similiar.
A huge advantage of this game is video-memory requirement is very low(2MB maybe...Of course if you have good video-memory the game would be much nicer)The magic are great and very nice in this game, personal I think it's better than BG.
If you haven't played any Baldur's Gate game before, this is an excellent buy. If you played BG before, ok this is not bad replay either.
