I was put off buying this item by a previous review, which refers to an old edition of the book. Since then, I have picked it up in a bookshop- and it is exactly what I need for my upcoming trip. There is a useful introduction section then 51 walks throughout Iceland are described; level of difficulty is colour coded. Each walk has a detailed description with map, pictures and a height profile graphic. This is a perfect complement to a general guide. Highly recommended.

I found this a book of contrasts, from long routes from locations which were difficult to get to by a normal car and required the use of a four wheel drive to very short walks to some of the most visited tourist sites such as waterfalls which didn't need a guide book. It is 8 years old and some of the information regarding the access decriptions was out of date and confusing in places. The maps are generally poor as they are too small and out of date. The translation does not appear to have been done by an English speaking person as some parts were confusing and the names of birds and flowers were incorrect and were a literal translation from the German. Overall a disappointing buy.

I bought this to give me some ideas of walks in the south west of Iceland, however the book seems to concentrate on a number of areas, rather than having a section on SW, NW, SE, etc with a number of walks in each which means its ultimately disappointing.

The overview of each walk is quite useful.
