A powerful and future-proof Freeview HD receiver that handles hi-def from both DVB-T2 broadcasts and DivX HD files could be hard to resist for many after pin-sharp World Cup action, but the T2200 will keep on giving.

This HD freeview receiver produces great pictures. I had a flashing video problem in 1080p when I first received but that was cured with a firmware upgrade that was simple to do.
I'm really pleased with the day to day operational functions. The Media player functions well in fact it seems to play all of my Avi collection including HD MKV's via its USB is a bonus.
I would highly recommend this simple to use receiver.

Since this box is only around 60 and with a firmware upgrade is able to record to a usb stick/hard drive. What you essentially get is a no frills HD PVR for less than half the price of the competition.

The good:
Record functionality after beta firmware update. You can also do scheduled recording.
Comes out of standby to record and then goes back to standy when finished
No bright annoying "lights up the room" power light
Excellent HD picture quality in 720p/1080i/1080p
Decent remote
Sound quality
On screen menus and EPG are cleanly presented and easy to understand
Card slot for subscription TV
Only uses 1 watt in passive standby
Playback of xvid/divx/mp4/mkv from USB

The bad:
Experienced the odd freeze up until I disabled "Interactive Services" from the settings menu
EPG is a little slow and clunky at times
Boot from standby takes about 10 to 15 secs
No series linking in PVR functionality
Estimated space left for recording is wrong

The bad are all just tiny niggles when compared to how good this box is. I'd recommend this as the choice for HD freeview on a budget.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great box for the money. 31 Aug 2011
By Trev-R TOP 100 REVIEWER

I bought this box just to get the HD channels as my TV has a normal freeview built in. This unit is well made and easy to install and the HD channels look very nice. The EPG is easy to use and works quickly, no drag like on some cheaper boxes. The 'Favourites' setup is particularly nice with pre-allocated groups such as News and Sport but you can also add your own groups. The remote control is fine, a little shiny for my liking but seems good quality and comes with batteries. There is also an HDMI cable included although it doesn't seem best quality. I purchased Duronics cables Duronic Black White 2010D/2 High Speed 2 Metre HDMI Cable - White 2M HDMI to HDMI Heads they are cheap but excellent quality.

The other features I find useful are the automatic power down which switches the unit off after no activity for 3 hours and setting timer events to watch a specific program by pressing the OK button when the program is highlighted in the EPG.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK But same old product back up problems! 21 Nov 2011

Good points, Solid feeling unit, compact, superb HD/SD and upscaling, and sound delivery from standard roof aerial. Capable of recording, yes! See comments below. Worth buying, yes if you have a pioneering spirit and spade loads of patience with the unit, and the seller. If you do not, just spend a lot more money, not necessarily with ICECRYPT as you may not know what after-sales service to expect.

I purchased the T2200 a few weeks ago. From opening the box, the same old complaints= rubbish instruction manual poorly written and non-sensical order and advice. Initially, good response by email from the importer, latterly no response? Simple request regarding USB recording times (OSD) and incorrect timing issues, recordings stopped prematurely.

The unit has been provided with a USB facility to record onto a suitably formatted hard drive or USB stick.
Problem is, does not do this out of the box, unless you get a firmware upgrade from an outside provider, "At your own risk" and if you want to format your USB drive or stick to the NTFS format. This is not difficult, but not mentioned anywhere in "The instructions" or easily found on the ICECRYPT web site. (They will tell you if you ask??)

The recording playback= providing you did format your stick or drive properly, you may experience the recording stopping prematurely, grrrrrrrrr! Because the T2200 provides incorrect information on remaining space on the drive, or the unit has faulty firmware, or I don't know! In addition, ICRYPT have offered no explanation.

That's not all= You may playback recordings, Not made with the ICECRYPT T2200 providing they are in the FAT format? Yes, that's straightforward then?

5.0 out of 5 stars Icecrypt T2200 21 Aug 2011
Verified Purchase
Another bargain from Amazon with superb picture to boot. A snip at 59, especially after installing the beta firmware allows scheduled and instant recording to a USB HDD. There are glowing reports all over the web for this box, many rating it higher than the highly acclaimed FoXsat. I have already grabbed a second mint example off Ebay for just 16. As the new Icecrypt T4200 is 300 and is just the T2200 with built in HDD, I would grab one while you can.

5.0 out of 5 stars needs to warm up 22 Oct 2011

When i first set it up, it seemed to freeze and loose the sound on BBC channels. I was ready to return it, but it all cleared up after leaving it on overnight. Now it just works and the hard disc that I attached, works well too - pause, record, EPG record, fast -> and <- . I really like the EPG, neat and obvious.
