Like most of the Icebreaker products this one is up for the job when you're out in the mountain.
Quality, precision, warmth, breathability - it has it all!
Highly recommended!

Used this on Kilimanjaro. My ears and neck got sunburnt and blistered on the first day so had to resort to using this for the rest of the trip. Excellent in both the sun and the freezing cold.

Well made, durable balaclava. I use it for winter cycling. It 'wicks' moisture, is light and thin but very warm. Much warmer and 'breathable' than a skull cap

I love Merino wool 25 Jan. 2014

Not scratchy
Easily breathe through light fabric
Doesn't get as funky/gross as synthetics
Facehole easily positions for open face or full ski mask, ninja-look

Caveat: mouth and face coverage in very cold weather will lead to a lot of condensation, this is better for milder conditions or just to take the edge off wind chill
Balaclavas don't get much better than this. 16 Mar. 2015

This fits very comfortably over my extra-large head (for reference, one-size-fits-all bike helmets and hats do NOT fit me; I need the extra large size). It covers my nose when needed (most of the time) yet also is stretchy enough to pull down below the chin, to expose one's face when stepping inside a store for a moment. It's also easy to slip on and off over the head at a moment's notice.

It is thick enough to provide protection from the cold and wind, but thin enough to easily breathe through while walking around, and thin enough to fit under a more substantial wool cap or hood when the temperatures or wind chill get really bad.

I wore it about every day this winter, in temperatures from 25F to -20F. Anyone reading this probably already knows how great Icebreaker's merino wool is; but just in case, note that I wore it for walks nearly every day for two months, washed it about once a week (because wool discourages bacterial growth and smell compared to synthetics, it doesn't need much washing), and it still looks and feels like new. I look forward to wearing it again next winter, and the next.
Exactly what I hoped it would be 7 Jan. 2015

I bicycle year-round in the Seattle area. It gets chilly, but rarely down into the teens. I can't use a typical heavy balaclava at all - I'd overheat in 5 minutes.

The Icebreaker Oasis is featherweight, takes up minimal room in a drawer or bike bag, and doesn't mess with helmet fit. It keeps the chill off my face and warms the air I'm breathing, and stretches enough that I can pull it down under my chin when I warm up. The cost is competitive with other similar garments of a variety of materials, and the Merino wool is superior to any of them for my uses. I haven't gotten rid of my lightweight synthetic balaclava, but I'm not using it anymore.

Exactly what I hoped for, with no deficiencies. Gets my highest possible recommendation.
Good liner 22 Dec. 2014

Good helmet liner for skiing. Not super warm but helps keep the chill off your face. Won't stink up like synthetics. I wish it was a little bit tighter, there's some excess material around the top of the head that bunches when I put my helmet on, and I've got a pretty decent sized head.

Warm up to -2 degrees celsius in windy conditions. Kept my face quite toasty when snowmobiling. Keeps slipping off my nose though after some time.
