Product Description

Product Description

It is February in Paradise, Michigan, and for the first time since moving there, Alex is taking a hard look at his life. This is what happens when a middle-aged solitary guy falls in love. The woman is Natalie Reynaud, an officer from the Ontario Provincial Police whose partner has recently been killed. As far as the OPP are concerned, Natalie is responsible for her partner's death. She needs a break - from the past as well as the present. Alex and Natalie spend a romantic weekend together, but just as everything seems to be going so well, they are disturbed by someone who knows all about Natalie, and about a dark episode buried in her family's past which still drives men to violence. As much as Natalie doesn't want Alex to get involved, there's no way he can let her face this danger alone. After all, he's been beaten up and shot at, all to help a friend in need. How much further would he go for the woman he loves?

5.0 out of 5 stars Thrilling Northern Michigan, 19 Jan 2006
By Mary Hogan (Tonbridge England) - See all my reviews
Wow! I just loved this atmospheric thriller. Steve Hamilton makes Northern Michigan come alive. His descriptive paragraphs transport the reader to the essence of this interestingly, beautiful state. What is it with these Michigan authors. My two favoutite books of the season, Hamiltons' 'Ice Run and Bradley T Platts' thriller 'Deadstream have both been penned by Michiganders. Bring on their next offerings.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the rest in the series, 27 Jul 2009
By Julia Flyte - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This is Steve Hamilton's 6th book about Alex McKnight, a retired police officer living in northern Michigan. I've loved this series, but I have to say that Ice Run is easily the weakest to date.

The story has Alex and his girlfriend Natalie meeting up for a weekend in a luxury hotel. There they have a brief encounter with an eccentric old man who claims to recognize one of the them and then wanders off into the snow and dies. Alex is determined to find out what the man was talking about and quickly finds that the man's relatives are equally determined to prevent him.

The book takes a very long time to get going. It hinges on a mystery that isn't that interesting and is unnecessarily complicated. Moreover, the eventual resolution is just silly. The other books in this series have been so good, but this one is not in the same league.
