Having seen this series on TV a while back, I made sure that I purchased it when it came out on DVD. I wasn't disapointed. The transfer to DVD hasn't dulled the experience. The scenery is still amazing, the job the truckers do is even more so.

It follows the lives of 6 truckers over the course of 2 months, delivering various loads to the 3 diamond mines. The job these people do is inspiring. OK, they do it for a shed load of cash, but even so, taking a 20 tonne truck with a 50 tonne load onto 3 feet of ice is awe inspiring in anyones language.

There is an addition not shown on Channel 5, where the truckers are round a table discussing their experience. This was an added bonus, and answers some questions that you had when watching the dvd, but to stretch it to 2 episodes, and miss out the episode of the history of the ice road (shown on TV) I thought was a missed opportunity.

Overall, a must for anyones DVD collection.

A very entertaining, instructive, informative and enjoyable DVD collection, which once you start watching you'll want to carry on until the end.
But just a word of caution to the cleverer people out there. You may quickly get very annoyed at the constant exaggeration and over-emphasis of things, obviously done to try and capture an American audience I suspect. For example, a truck clipping a car's 'fender' becomes a 'crash', a few drops of diesel leaked are an 'ecological disaster', and, well, you get the idea. Also irritating is the constant 'repeating in summary' of events you have only just watched, with the same footage being shown over and over.
If you can ignore this or live with it though, you will most certainly enjoy watching the whole series about a completely different way of life and way of earning money on the ice road in just 60 days.

READY TO ROLL

Hugh Rowland sets off for Yellowknife with his fleet of four trucks known as the Polar Bear, Hugh is a 20 year veteran of the ice roads. His drivers include Rick yemm, a second year man on the ice and everyone's comic relief, Drew Sherwood and Todd White both rookies who are not whether they have what it takes in the world of ultimate trucking. But they're driving 1,400 miles north to find out.

When the temperature drops sufficiently and ice is thick enough, the big rigs get ready to roll. My favourite trucker as to no other than brilliant trucker Alex Debogorski, 26 year veteran and father of eleven children, and wonderful human being and give his is time too help others in trouble or indeed where would you be without this veteran and experienced trucker.
Finally T J Tilcox another rookie experiences the extreme dangers of the job on his first up the ice road conditions, He drives straight in a whiteout.

My favourite trucker is Alex Debogorski is always Good Samaritian and what would he is and helpers other truckers in trouble or stuck in the snow or ice road conditions wonderful samaritian and give me opportunity say Well Done Alex.

This series is very reasonably priced entertainment providing us with a great insight into the world of trucking on ice.

The series explains the fundamentals of the formation and maintenance of ice roads. It follows a few of the truckers on their travels to the diamond mines. The friendships and emotions are shared with the camera.

By the end of the series you feel you really know these guys and have a great appreciation for the job they do.

Ok, their job is quite impressively dangerous and macho and all (in that they might go through the ice), but that doesn't necassarily make good TV, for longer than about 10 minutes. There's maybe one bloke that seemed like an interesting, nice guy, but the rest seemed pretty dull. Either that or they had huge egos and were really quite annoying.
The show basically consists of trucks breaking down or refusing to start in the first place due to the cold, schedules going wrong, blokes competing for how many loads they can haul in a season etc. As another reviewer pointed out, this is basically male fantasy TV, as it's about as far from working in an office as you can get, whilst still sitting down all day. If it sounds like your kind of thing, then fair enough, there's nothing wrong with a bit of fantasy, but just don't expect this to be more than it is. How they got more than one season out of this subject I've no idea.

This TV- series is great. Tough job, big risks, big money. Interesting to watch winter trucking in hard conditions. Also you learn so much about driving and the trucks. I'm amazed to see how they drive diesel trucks in minus 50 degrees celsius. We sometimes have minus 30 degrees celsius here in Finland, and you worry how your diesel car will work. And its real people doing real job. No messing about, no playing. Have bought all the Ice Road Truckers- seasons and both Deadliest Roads- seasons from Amazon, except one.
Ice Road Truckers season 7 has been released on DVD in the USA in October. I do hope that it will be released in the UK soon so that we Europeans can enjoy watching it too. Can't wait.
