5.0 out of 5 stars Goosebumps!, 13 Feb 2008
I would not normally choose to read a non-fiction 'adventure' book...but I am so thankful that I did. 'Ice Bears and Kotick' was the most amazing and fascinating book, I didn't want the journey to end but when it did and I read the last chapter...it gave me goose bumps.I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves quality writing and storytelling.

5.0 out of 5 stars arctic adventure, 25 Jan 2008
A compelling and nicely paced read. This book will appeal not only to sailors, but also to all those with a sense of adventure. Its easy
to become engrossed in the artic world portrayed here, and the characters and creatures that we meet on the journey round the island.
An entertaining and unusual journey in the spirit of explorers who challenge their limits in their journey into uncharted territory.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mad, Fab and Dangerously Cold, 29 Feb 2008
If someone had asked me to row around an island the size of Scotland in arctic conditions, with limited food, the threat of freezing, sinking without trace and not forgetting polar bears, I'd have told them they were off their rockers and to send me a postcard.

Luckily no one has, but I still get to read about the fantastic journey into the uninhabited wastes of the icecaps in this book lovingly written by Peter Webb. He paints such beautiful pictures of an arduous and often perilous voyage in search of the first circumnavigation of Spitzbergen.

It is a book full of passion and dedication and I heartily recommend it to anyone who is not planning on a similar journey themselves.
