From Amazon.co.uk

The love life of a woolly mammoth - handled with U-rated delicacy - drives this sequel to the first computer-animated romp in the age of prehistoric mammals. While the first Ice Age took a delightful premise and suffocated it with a formulaic plot - in which a mammoth named Manfred (voiced by Ray Romano, Everyone Loves Raymond), a sloth named Sid (John Leguizamo, Moulin Rouge!), and a sabre-tooth tiger named Diego (Denis Leary, Rescue Me) helped an abandoned human infant return to its tribe (basically, Three Mammals and a Baby) - the sequel takes the now-familiar setting, gives it a shapeless, episodic storyline, and yet somehow becomes pretty darn entertaining. Faced with the threat of a flood from melting ice, our heroic trio are on the run to escape from their blossoming valley. On the way, they meet a female mammoth (Queen Latifah, Bringing Down the House) who thinks she's an opossum and get menaced by some freshly defrosted carnivorous fish. Add into the mix a herd of lava-worshipping mini-sloths, some Busby Berkeley-style vultures, and more ingenious slapstick featuring the acorn-crazed Scrat, and Ice Age: The Meltdown will amuse even jaded adults. --Bret Fetzer

Product Description

Manny the woolly mammoth (voice of Ray Romano), Sid the sloth (John Leguizamo), Diego the saber-toothed tiger (Denis Leary), and the hapless prehistoric squirrel/rat known as Scrat (Chris Wedge) are back in this sequel to the popular 2002 film. Manny is ready to start a family, but nobody has seen another mammoth for a long time. In fact, Manny thinks he may be the last one. That is until he miraculously finds Ellie (Queen Latifah), the only female mammoth left in the world. The only problem being that they can't stand each other. Ellie comes with some excess baggage in the form of her two possum friends Crash (Seann William Scott) and Eddie (Josh Peck), a couple of daredevil pranksters and cocky, loud-mouthed troublemakers. When a huge glacial dam holding off oceans of water is about to break, threatening the entire valley, the only chance of survival lies at the other end of the valley. So our three heroes, along with Ellie, Crash and Eddie, form the most unlikely family as they embark on a mission across an ever-changing, increasingly dangerous landscape.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun for the whole family 18 Aug 2006
By Catfish TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
I loved this tale of friendship, courage and love - the animation was awesome, down to the minutest details of facial expressions, and all the animals were incredibly cute (and there were so many of them too apart from our three heros Manny, Sid and Diego). My favourite was the migration scene, where you could see more animals than were aboard Noah's ark, and of course Scrat's neverending quest for the Acorn. You will laugh your pants off; you will be so touched that you'll cry; you will sit on the edge of your seat in suspense. A lovely family film with a moral, but with lots of fun and laughs too.

5.0 out of 5 stars This film is deeply moving 10 Aug 2006
Format:DVD
This film really moved me. It was both comical AND poignant, a rare combination and a welcome one. There are moments in this film which just made me break right down and cry!

For those of you who haven't seen it, this sequel to the film "Ice Age" has Manny, Sid and Diego trying to escape the imminent flood that follows an indeterminable Ice Age. Their world is changing and they, together with their surrounding neighbours, must make it to the one place that will save them all, a place where they can rise above the imminent flood and settle on higher ground.

It's that journey that this film concentrates on, and the interaction that brings them all together is just tear-jerking in some places. Each character manages to overcome their own personal fears and their own personal prejudices for each other, and they form an unbreakable bond that helps them to reach their final destination. Only by working together, are they able to finally escape to the higher ground and escape the flood.

I can't praise this film enough, it has an outstanding moral message that the leaders of our modern-day world would do well to take note of.

3.0 out of 5 stars What went wrong? 17 Oct 2006
By Adam VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
Ice Age was a huge hit at the cienma and it had every right to be. It was hysterical, it had mild action but enough to keep you a little over the edge of your seat and just plain good fun. Sadly, Ice Age: The Meltdown acheives none of these. One of the things that went drastically wrong was the fact that it had to live up to the first great film which was going to be hard work. The scenery is nice and the characters are loveable but the story and humour lacks. It was boring and the jokes weren't aimed at all ages. It was just little kiddie jokes aimed at 5 - 8 year olds. I was truly dissapointed when I came out from this film becuase even Scrat couldn't keep the storyline going (although he was defiantely one of the best characters throughout the film). Not outrageoulsy bad but a really big shame as this could have been a lot, lot better.

Good value for money, arrived promptly. I've always loved this movie, except the series has recently fallen into the trap of Shrek syndrome. I am in mourning.
