Product Description

Review

"This is a good, propulsive tale that owes much to Philip K Dick's underground paranoia fable 'The Penultimate Truth' and is at times really sadistic (Levy is a dentist)." (Andrew McKie THE TELEGRAPH )

"An impressively solid, hyper real novel about greed, corruption and violence, and surviving the near impossible. This book is not perfect - few novels are - but it reveals Levy as a man to watch (and buy). (Jon Courtenay Grimwood SFX )

Best SF for 2006 5 Feb 2007
By Archana
Format:Paperback
This, like all of Levy's books, takes us into a kind of future - but not in any way that you'd expect. His worlds are richly imagined, philosophically profound and utterly original. He has a keen sense of humankind's tendency to self-destruct at the height of greatest hubris. I love this writer's stories but I also love his language: he cares about words and he has a great feel for dialogue. ICARUS has been nominated by the SF Society as one of the best sci-fi books of 2006. It deserves to win.

Avoid 17 Dec 2008
Format:Paperback
A dire book about a charismatic evangelist - who is also a paranoid schizophrenic - and how he takes over the world, trashes it, and sets up two colony worlds which he then misrules without anyone noticing. The premises that he works on is that everybody bar his main character is as thick as two short planks and that everybody in business is corrupt and none of them will betray him to his enemies (what?).

The author has a remarkably distorted view of the modern world and understands absolutely nothing about politics, big business or social relationships.

Dark heart 30 Aug 2006
By Archana - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This novel takes me to places I've not seen, places I dread, places so compellingly imagined that they look like real memories. The writing is subtle and controlled. The writer is clearly interested in power and persuasion, and the visions of hope offered to people by their (our?) leaders. The Captain is a particularly haunting character, disturbingly familiar in some ways and yet unique. At the heart of it all is a current of despair at our appetite for self-destruction. Icarus indeed.
