This book has really helped me to understand more about what causes my IBS symptoms and is by the far the most effective dietary approach I have tried (out of many). The rationale behind the approach is explained very well and a recommendations for what to eat make it very easy to follow. There is an elimination phase in which you remove all sources of FODMAPs and then challenge phases when you try FODMAP containing foods to establish your own level of tolerance. It contains a list of ingredients to watch out for and also ingredients that shouldn't cause problems. I find it useful to take shopping with me so I can feel more confident in what I buy. Patsy posts on her website as new nutritional information becomes available so you are always kept up to date with what you can and can't eat. My NHS dietician subsequently provided me with some information on the FODMAPs approach, but Patsy's book is much more comprehensive. I've already recommended this to people I know who have functional gut problems.

I truly appreciate the time and effort Patsy has dedicated to providing a research/evidence based study into the effects of diet on IBS. Particularly when some/majority of GPs advice, where diet is concerned, is minimum or outdated. I think the FODMAP approach to diet, outlined in your excellent book, is a key component in the management of IBS symptoms. I've personally found it a useful tool, combined with complementary dietary, medication and lifestyle adaptations in the fight to control my IBS symptoms.
