I've become a big fan of Doorly over the past year. His production usually leans towards the Dubstep genre, but also dabbles with other styles like breakbeat and electro house, often cut into the same tracks. His style of production and DJing has a very modern touch whilst holding onto a very old skool attitude.
For this compilation Doorly has used a varied selection of tracks and he mixes fluidly between styles. There are (I'm happy to say) plenty of drum patterns and basslines that I've not heard since the 90's. But you could say that these have been taken from a different angle, so do sound fresh.
Quite a few of the tracks are his own. However, perhaps surprisingly none of his most well known tunes feature. But instead there are tunes that are probably more fitting for a CD compilation (rather than recording a club throwdown).
I really like this CD and I can see it being one I'll come back to a lot over coming months and maybe even years. I think it is a good example of where we are in the world of Underground Dance music today and definitely worth checking out.
One question however. Why is the 2nd mix so much shorter than the first?
