Product Description

If simplicity is what you're after, the GAX may be your rock weapon of choice. This double-cutaway guitar does away with frills, but it keeps the stuff that matters. An exceptionally good value guitar, absolutely brilliant for beginners, and won't break the bank! We think that these are BY FAR the best electric guitar at this price. Recommended! Ibanez AX series guitars have everything you need, and nothing you don't! Raw rock and roll simplicity and double-humbucking pickups in a crystal-cut mahogany body. Everyone should have the right to a decent rock and roll axe, and Ibanez GAX guitars offer better quality and superior sound to anything else in their price range... which is why GAX guitars are one of the best selling guitar series in the world! * GAX neck * Agathis body * Medium frets * Fixed bridge * PSND1 Humbucker neck pickup * PSND2 Humbucker bridge pickup Neck Dimensions: Scale: 628mm/24.75" Width at Nut: 43mm Width at Last Fret: 57mm Thickness at 1st fret: 20mm Thickness at 12th: 22mm Radius: 400mm

Bit of a disclaimer first: I am very much a novice when comes to playing the guitar, so regard these comments accordingly.

I bought this guitar on the spur of the moment when I'd noticed the price had dropped, figuring that if I was truly awful with an electric guitar I would not be too out of pocket. While I am not much of guitarist, my brother is and in the past he had owned an Ibanez, and having read comments on guitar based websites I was confident what I was buying would be decent quality. In actual fact it turned out to be far better than I expected.

First impressions are very good, with the transparent red paint of the SG inspired body being of a very high quality and depending on the light is either a vivid red or a dark maroon. The slim neck and frets are smooth and solid feeling. Fittings are of a high quality (certainly for the price) with the bridge and tuning hardware all chrome metal. The volume/tone knobs are plastic though, and pick-up switch is pretty basic, but all are perfectly functional. The only real negative I can think of is the supplied cable is pretty poor and should be replaced immediately.

In use it's not too heavy, is relatively slim and has a very comfortable shape with everything falling to hand. Sound quality is a subjective thing and I'm certainly not good enough to get the best from this guitar, but I'd have to say it sounds pretty good. Played clean through a Vox Pathfinder practice amp it sounds a little too bright for my tastes, but add some gain and better still some overdrive and things beef up nicely.

Overall I'd say this makes an excellent first electric guitar and is great value for money. It would probably impress more than a few experienced players too.

PS.

Bought this as a replacement for my broken Squier. Its a lot better, would recommend this for anyone looking a bottom end guitar that still sounds great. On a side note it works well with the game Rocksmith.

A great guitar, a lot lighter than I thought it would be. For those new to buying guitars (like me), if you want to play songs like Muse: Knights of Cydonia, note that this doesn't have a Tremolo (wammy) bridge so you might need to get either a new guitar or an effects pedal, or I saw someone bend the string. Just thought I would note it.

this is my first guitar and I'm slowly learning, so this is not the comment of an expert...
Well, to make it short, I really love it!
it stays tuned perfectly if you play it at least half an hour every day and I am happy about sound and finiture as well: I was looking for a rock/blues sound and I would definitively reccomend it.
